REVIEW

Boss sucked me right into the action from the start, a desperate woman on the run from one criminal who finds herself right in the path of another.
First, I want to say something - when I sat down with this book, based on the blurb, I expected your usual mafia type book - that is NOT this book.  Though the term "made man" is used - in both the synopsis and book -  it's not exactly the same as with other mafia books.  Which gave me my first clue that this book was going to be something different.
Carissa is running from a criminal mastermind when first we meet her, one who has hurt her several times over and has his very own plans where she's concerned. Plans she doesn't want to be any part of, especially not after all the man has done to her. After returning from a night of what was supposed to be fun with her friends, Carissa finds her life turned upside down again and she sets out on a path for revenge. I loved that she's a strong, feisty, smart woman.
Alec is the head of his family's criminal enterprise, he finds himself drawn to a stranger while at a club with his brother, but after a brief moment of connection, they are drawn apart during a moment of chaos but Alec finds himself wanting to find this woman again.
Boss is full of twists and turns, both expected and unexpected, all that drew me further into the story. The bonds between Carissa and her friends - those that make up the Trinity- are amazing and really made for a great depth of character. There is a lot of action which propels the book at a seemingly fast pace, but it moves in such away that its not hard to grasp.
This is a story with power and intrigue, with characters who are hard to pin down as being 'good' or 'bad' at first, but a host of actions and reasons that make it all understandable, even though its complicated.
The romance between the two is built up throughout the book, but it doesn't feel like the main focus of the story, which in turn makes it not seem rushed. I enjoyed the interactions between these two and watching how it all came together.
Boss drew me straight into this world of criminal empires, making me curious to know more about each and every character and pulling out many emotions.  I'll definitely have to follow the rest of this series and see how it all turns out.
