Review

First and foremost, I have to say that I haven't read all of the previous books in this series (I'm going to do that soon though), but this book can definitely be read as a standalone.

Maisie was widowed and left to raise her daughter alone, she's CEO of her very own company and has a good support system with friends, but she's never really wanted to move on with a new relationship.  Nobody has ever called to her or made her feel that way since her husband passed, until she's unexpectedly rescued by Hatch.  Something about him just pulls her in and makes her have feelings she thought long since lost.  I loved Maisie, she was funny and smart, a true friend and a kind soul, a woman who struggled a bit with her loss, but also didn't dwell on it.

Hatch hasn't had it easy, but he's a good man inside.  He went through a lot and he took care of his family, his siblings, though they might not always appreciate it.  He's not looking for a relationship, he's more of a one and done type of guy, no strings, nothing serious.  But something about Maisie sucks him in and he can't help himself, no matter how many times he tries to tell his brain "NO", something pushes him towards her.

I really loved the dynamics between Hatch and Maisie, two people who meet by chance, who are opposites and yet share a connection anyways.  I loved watching as these two tried to figure it out, as they fought their feelings for each other and fought their own pasts as well.  Both of them had been through so much.

I also really enjoyed the glimpses into their family and friends, getting to know those that surrounded these two, those most important to them. Each person added a little something to the story and made it come to life. From Alison and her antics, to Poppy and her emotions, her confusion as a young girl who's grown up without a father, to Hatch's sister who was full of sass.

I enjoyed the little bit of suspense as well, as it brought things to light and made me look from a different angle.
