Ablaze took me on quite a winding road full of twists and turns and obstacles for our hero and heroine to work through. The story is full of suspense, danger lurking, and a whole lot of chemistry.
Lexi is a paramedic who loves her job, when she transferred to Station 58, she was happy because it would give her more opportunities for exciting cases doing the job she loves. But there's another reason she's equally excited for the transfer, her crush works the same station. She thinks he barely knows she exists.
Dane loves his job as a firefighter so when he's injured on a job, and taken off of it to be looked at and treated, he's upset to have been pulled from work but glad to have a moment with Lexi. Turns out, not only did he know she existed, he'd wanted an opportunity to get to know her.
But things with the job aren't exactly going as she thought, especially not as patients are dying and the connection is that she's the paramedic involved in their cases. Getting anyone else to notice that anything is going on though is not as easy as one would think, thankfully Dane believes her. But can they figure out the truth together?
Ablaze was one of those stories that instantly sparked my mind with guesses, making small connections between things I read and things I could see coming in the future pages. It was equal parts romance and suspense and as a whole worked very well all put together. Dane and Lexi's connection is powerful, their scenes are steamy and they work together well. I loved that their relationship wasn't smooth and easy going, that in addition to the mystery of what was going on with her patients they had other bumps in the road to work through.
Another thing I enjoyed about this story was the connections the characters have with their co-workers. There is a very familial feel between the group at times and it made me look forward to getting to know other characters in later books.
