Synopsis:

Ellaine Greene has simple desires. She just wants to do her best as the event coordinator for the local aquarium, to support environmental conservation efforts, and to keep immature man-children out of her life.
So when a major donor to the aquarium demands Ellaine find a magician for her granddaughter's birthday party, all she can imagine is a long line of card chuckers and coin flippers wearing cheesy sequined vests. Instead, she gets Xander Hollatz, a sophisticated, powerful man in a crisp suit, with nimble fingers and a warm smile. He's the man for the job, no doubt. And, to her surprise, she realizes he might be the man for her, too. Will she let her doubts get in the way of their feelings for each other? And when everything goes wrong at the birthday party, will he be able to perform a miracle to save the day? Sleight of Hand #1: Private Performance is a 17,000-word novella, introducing readers to Ellaine and Xander's passionate and tender romance, to the fascinating wildlife inhabiting the aquarium, and to the mysterious world of professional magicians.

Excerpt:

She lost track of time. Two o’clock arrived in the form of a knock on her open door.

She jumped a little, looked up.

Standing in the doorway was the man of her dreams. And not in a metaphorical way,

either. It was simply… him. The man she had dreamed about last night, right down to the

color of his suit jacket. Her skin went all goosebumpy. Here, in the flesh, he was even more

broad-shouldered, more muscular than she’d imagined.

And then he smiled. The room actually got brighter, as if someone had pushed some

drapes aside and let in the sun.

“Hello,” he said, in a rolling, resonant voice. “I’m Xander. Sorry for barging in like

this. Your assistant said you were expecting me.”

“I was. Am.”

They both hesitated — he by the door, she at her desk — as a timeless moment

passed, and they sunned themselves in the sudden heat of each other’s bodies.

Then Brissa’s face appeared, peering around the doorway with an amused

expression. Her eyes flicked downward. Ellaine realized her assistant was checking out the

man’s ass.

Brissa looked back up, met Ellaine’s eyes, and nodded vigorously.

Ellaine cleared her throat and said, “Please, have a seat.” Then quickly added: “And if

you’d shut the door?”

Brissa gave her a thumbs-up, then disappeared.

“Of course,” her applicant said, and as he turned to close the door Ellaine took a

glance of her own.

Oh yes.

She looked up just in time as he turned back around and took a seat across from her.

My REVIEW:

Private Performance is book one in the Sleight of Hand series and it introduces us to Ellaine and Xander.

At the start of the book, Ellaine is stuck with a problem, she needs a magician for a party she's coordinating/planning and the last magician she used she had to let go due to a major issue.  But she wants to make her client happy and keep the funds the party would bring in, so she's on the look for a new magician. In walks Xander, ready and willing to step in as the magician needed.

Trouble is, not only is Xander just the magician she needs, he's also the man of her dreams.  But Ellaine is going through a rough time and doesn't feel she's looking for a man in her life right now.

But something about Xander pulls Ellaine towards him, makes her feel comfortable with him, makes her tell him things. And Xander is definitely feeling more for Ellaine that just a casual, you are my boss sort of thing.

Through a big part of the story, Ellaine's pushing him away, and Xander's not fighting hard for a place in her life, leaving you to wonder will they be able to actually form a relationship and be able to have it last? And just when you think maybe just maybe they have a real shot, Ellaine thinks the steps they've taken are a big mistake, though one she's willing to repeat in the future.

Private Performance is a quick read but don't let its length fool you, it is full of story.  There are bits of funny, steamy, and sweet mixed in.

I want to read the second book in this series and see if these two are able to work through things and give their chemistry a chance at a great relationship and maybe a happily ever after.

Synopsis:

Ellaine Greene has a new man in her life, the famous magician Xander Hollatz. He's ripped, kind, and mysterious -- nothing like her ex-husband. He has even volunteered to perform at her aquarium's annual fundraising gala. But she's still having trouble leaving the past behind, especially when her ex shows up to beg for money. Before the new couple knows it, someone's trying to break into Xander's mansion to steal the secrets of his many famous illusions. Ellaine's ex becomes their prime suspect. But maybe it's actually the up-and- coming street magician they've befriended. Or maybe it's even someone from Xander's mysterious past. Whoever the thief is, if he uncovers and reveals the secret of Xander's newest illusion for the fundraiser, the event will be a disaster. Ellaine may lose her job. And there's a still greater question: Is this feeling they share together just lust -- or is it something more? Find out in this 74,000-word book, the second volume in the Sleight of Hand series.

Excerpt:

Then she went to a nearby washroom and checked herself in the mirror. Why am I

worrying so much about what I look like? She was going to tell him what had happened

between them had been a mistake. To cut him out of her life. Why would she need to look

good for that?

Because you want him to want you.

She hardened herself against that desire. Straightened her shoulders, set her jaw.

Nope. This was it. Thanks, but no thanks. That's what she was going to tell him.

She returned to her office.

He was there, sitting in the chair across from hers. Her heart felt as though it were

atop a cresting wave. Her skin felt like a shimmering ocean.

Brissa, at her own desk just outside the office, looked up from her computer with a

knowing smile.

"Brissa, could you..." Ellaine trailed off. Damn. Why couldn't she think of an errand to

send her on?

"Would you like me to get you some coffee?" Brissa suggested.

"Yes. Um. No."

"Not from the cafe."

"No, not the cafe."

"From the coffee shop all the way down the street?"

Ellaine dropped her voice. "Maybe... even a little further away than that."

Brissa grinned. "You got it, boss." She made herself scarce.

Ellaine closed the door behind her as she entered her office. Xander looked up. She

could read neither his eyes nor his body language. She endeavored to make herself as

inscrutable as he was.

Then she banged her hip against the desk.

"Owwww!"

"Oh! Are you—"

"Shit. Ow."

"Are you okay?"

She rubbed her hip. "I'm fine. Ow. Fuck. That really hurts."

He got up from his chair and, before she could say anything, he placed his fingertips

upon the fresh bruise.

His other hand found the small of her back.

They looked at each other.

And kissed.

It started sweetly, their lips and tongues just touching. Then their hunger for each

other grew. He pushed her against the wall. She wrapped his arms around him as he

pressed his body against hers. Their tongues leapt and danced. She felt his hands wending

their way underneath her clothes.

It's happening all over again, just like last night. And just like last night, he'd give her

pleasure again and again, until she was either too tired or too timid to return the favor.

Before he could undress her, she pushed him, backed him up against her desk. Then

she knelt down and unbuckled his trousers. In an instant she had his pants down and his

shirt up. She peppered his stomach with kisses and little licks. He sucked in his breath,

drawing his abs even tighter than they already were.

Genre: Contemporary Romance

Tour: Irresistible Reads Book Tours

Book Description:

Monica and Alex Waters have spent that last few months working to repair a broken

marriage and rekindle their passion. Just as they start finding their spark, Quinn

Matthews and his escalating career resurfaces, but this time Alex makes the decision to

let Monica go.

The devastation of losing her high school sweetheart, her home, and even her dog twists

Monica down a destructive path that alienates her from her closest friends and lands her

on Quinn’s couch. Despite her efforts to resist jumping into his arms again, the spark

between them reignites and sweeps her away on a whirlwind holiday adventure. She

finds that falling in love with Quinn’s family and lifestyle is as easy as falling for his

ocean colored eyes. The problem is that it’s all too easy, and when she sees that Quinn’s

reinvented life has completely shifted towards her dreams, she starts to question

whether he’s too good to be true.

Quinn has a secret that was never meant to be kept this long, but will Monica be able to

trust another man who’s lied? And now that Quinn’s got his happily ever after in sight,

he’s not about to let her go or share her with another man.

Excerpt:

The outdoor style shopping mall is bustling with tourist and local art lovers. Rows

of art galleries surround the courtyard where a stage welcomes a local reggae band.

Monica settles into a groove and starts dancing with the crowd. Alex tries to hang in for

a couple of songs before he starts feeling claustrophobic and looks to the galleries and

shops around them.

“Go ahead,” she says with a loving smile. “I’ll meet you down there... after one

more song.”

He gives her a little kiss on the cheek and glides his hand across her behind before

making his way out of the crowd. His attention is pulled by various pieces in windows

along the way. There’s a large glass sea turtle in shades of green and gold followed by

a painting of an autumn forest with heavy texture. He stands there daydreaming for a

minute until he’s distracted by a reflection passing in the glass. It’s so brief he’s sure it’s

his imagination. He barely catches a glimpse down the mall as the backside of the man

disappears into another gallery.

Alex follows the ghost, dodging through happy couples and pushy salespeople trying

to get his attention. Before he can see inside a painting that’s prominently displayed

on a front wall stops him. A cold washes over as he stands there staring at it. He

slowly moves inside, mesmerized by the familiar vibrant paint strokes until he sees a

few people gathered in the back. A man talking to two smiling women stills himself

as Alex’s eyes freeze on the back of his shaved head. No words were needed as the

tropical air takes a chill. Even the women sense a showdown and step back to give

Quinn room.

Quinn turns. What do I say? Fuck! I thought that was him. I hoped it wasn’t. Quinn

moves very slowly towards Alex. Is he gonna hit me? I do deserve it. Might as well get

it over with. “Hey.” Quinn pauses near the center of the room waiting.

Alex swallows hard, his nostrils flaring and fist clenched. His jaw flexes as his

breathing grows heavier, but the emotions just start to turn to mush. His eyes fill as

thoughts of his new friend’s betrayal wash over and the painting draws his eyes again.

“I’m sorry Alex,” Quinn says quietly.

Monica nearly passes the gallery on her way to see their friends when Alex’s shirt

first catches her eye. She halts and shifts backwards until she sees the painting and

stops. It’s a female figure bent forward reaching for her toes. The abstract form of her

body in swirls of orange and reds is cradled by a man swathed in blues and purple. Oh

my God! That’s me. That’s us, stretching. It can’t be. He’s...

She struggles for air as the tears swell, and she can already feel him. As she stands

there, not crossing the threshold, the two men watch her. When her eyes finally land on

Quinn, electricity fills the room. She can only see him and the deep tan that backdrops

the pale oceany eyes reaching for her. A warm drop gently slides down her cheekbone

as her breathing syncs with his. His lips move slightly hinting at words that he can’t find

while she struggles not to run into his arms.

Alex’s discomfort is audible as he clears his clogged throat to rattle her attention to

his worried eyes. She steps in and touches his hand briefly. “I’ll be outside,” she says,

turning without another glance at Quinn.

Her feet move quick as her thoughts try to keep up. What  are they  doing? Alex is

gonna hit him. I can’t believe he’s here. What are the odds? Did he know we’d be here?

No.  Maybe  he  moved  here.  That  painting  was  him  and  I  together.  Would  Alex  know

that?  It’s  pretty  abstract.  Fuck!  This  can’t  be  happening. Before she knows it, she’s

at the other end of the mall near the parking lot. She settles on a bench to wait for the

world to stop crumbling around her.

About the Author:

I'm a designer, author, wife and dog-lover living in the South Pasadena area of

in San Francisco, but my love of a good story came way before college. I remember

writing my first full story in fifth grade on a typewriter. I cut and pasted it into a book,

complete with cardboard cover and taped binding. Things have changed a lot since

then. With the magnificent digital age I can produce books and give them to the world

without a sticky mess.

In college numerous instructors and peers praised my dialogue pushed me to hone my

storytelling skills. Of course the need to cut and paste was still there, so I went into the

world of Production Design and Art Direction for films and television. It gave me the

ability to connect design to storytelling in a way that no other career can. The past 18

years have spun a unique perspective on visually emotional tales of relationships and

the thread that ties all things together. Now I’m shifting focus on the driving force thatn

brought me here... stories. I hope that I can share a unique perspective on life, love and

the pursuit in all of the above.

Lacey has a strength inside her that comes alive with the things she’s most passionate about. She’s a fighter, a survivor, and has everything she’s ever wanted but the one thing that matters most—love.

My Review:

This Review is for both the Prequel and Laces and Lace combined.

Laces and Lace might be my absolute favorite book by Toni Aleo. It is an emotional ride from start to finish. Karson and Lacey are amazing and their story is one of a kind.

Aleo took a hard subject, breast cancer, and turned it into something amazing. She masterfully showed the struggles of a survivor and how they view themselves. Lacey is a phenomenal character, who shows such maturity and devout faith, it comes off the pages into your heart.

Karson is a good strong man. He takes one look at Lacey and knows she is it for him. But people and things get in between and life takes a detour before he can get back on track with Lacey. He knows what a mistake he has made and would do anything to be able to erase it, but since that’s not possible, he will have to work hard to move past it.

I’ve disliked side characters of Aleo’s before, but I have to say that never before have I so hated a character in a book (or book series) as I do Nate Martin. The way his behavior is written amps up the hate factor by 100%.

Lacey’s entire family come off as manipulators, and I wanted to slap the lot of them. It felt good that Lacey stood up to them at many points during the story.

I found Karson and Lacey’s story to be wildly emotional and had me cheering them on from the sidelines. There were so many parts of this story that touched my heart, and so many moments that almost broke me too.

I feel that Laces & Lace was one of the best books in the series, not only because it revolved around heavy matter, but also because it drug you through emotional turmoil and struggles and it wasn’t happy go lucky easy. I felt that the characters, Lacey and Karson, ended up with their unique story because anything less amazing wouldn’t have suited them.

Review

Marcus Tandem needs a wife. He doesn't want one, he doesn't have time for one, and he couldn't care about having a wife, but he needs one. And due to things beyond his control, his wife has to be legit, he can't just pick a random stranger.

Fate lands Katia in Marcus' lap. She is struggling and she's naive and she eats up everything he tells her.  Eventually she finds herself married to him.  But she doesn't understand what it truly means.  Though she will.

'Til Death was a deliciously wicked read. I was pulled in to the story first by the synopsis and then by the characters and storyline. Marcus is a hard man to read, he comes off as an unfeeling jerk most of the time, but small glimpses make you wonder what lies beneath. Katia is a sweetheart for the most part, she's happy but she's starting to wonder what lurks under their "perfect" union. She questions if Marcus loves her at all.

Then everything changes. Tables are turned. Feelings become muddled and plans blurred.

'Til Death is full of lots of twists, things that keep you guessing. It is quite the experience trying to figure things out and guess what is coming.

I can't wait to see what is coming in volume 2. I have a feeling its going to be quite interesting.

Review Tour: Don't Let me Fall by Briana Pacheco

Don't Let Me Fall
By: Briana Pacheco
Releases:  December 4, 2014
Link:  Goodreads

Synopsis:

I don't want to be here.

When you lose the one person that was your whole life, you'll understand. For me, it was my best friend, Alice. We spent every second of every day together. We planned a life. I was actually living. I was happy.

Now, it's just gone.

And I'm still here. Lonely. A tatted up body with an empty soul.

Getting inside of my head won't be pretty. I'm warning you now that you won't like me. I hate people besides my family. I hate everything around me. I just want to be alone. And I HATE how Logan Mercer doesn't understand that. He's everywhere; getting inside of my head, kissing me when he shouldn't be, messing everything up, and trying to get me to open up. He's making me crazier than I already am. Why do I need to talk about my life? Why does he even care?

Why doesn't anyone understand that I don't want to get attached to people? I don't want to get fixed.

I want to be alone.

I want to be free.

I want to fly.

My name is Rebeckah Lennox and this is my story...of how I fell.

WARNING: Due to heavy subject matter, strong language, possible triggering descriptions of self-harm and some sexual situations this book is not recommended for anyone under the age of 17.

My Review:

Don't let me Fall is a wonderful story of Love and Forgiving ones self.  I love how Briana Pacheco brings this story to us, it starts as many other new adult novels, with the heroine of the story starting college.  Only, this time, she's at a new school, trying to get away from bad memories and move on with her life.  That is where the similarities end.

Rebeckah (Becky) has been through a serious trauma, and it has affected her life in many ways.  She doesn't make friends, she doesn't do realtionships, and she's rather hard to talk to sometimes.  She feels serious amounts of guilt over her past traumatic experience and she often questions why she's still living. Becky also has a lot going on her in normal everyday life. Family struggles are the fore front of why she's come home.

Logan enters Becky's life at the start of the school year, first glance and he knows there's something about her, but she doesn't want to give him the time of day.  Logan doesn't let that deter him though, and through his sister, Aimee's new-found friendship with Becky, he moves in and doesn't give up.

Becky doesn't know how to handle it at first, this guy horning in on her life and trying to make her feel things she doesn't want to feel. She doesn't want a relationship, she doesn't want a steady guy in her life.

But in the way of true love, Logan doesn't back down and eventually Becky starts to give in. Only to have things blow up in her face. (sorry, No spoilers here)  Their path wasn't easy and there was a lot to work through, but Don't Let Me Fall was a powerful story that was both heart breaking and swoon worthy at points.  I enjoyed every last word of this beautiful story.

MY REVIEWS:

Book 1: In the Beginning

In The Beginning kicks off the Trilogy and introduces us to the two main characters of this series;  Lauren Thompson and Mishca Volkov.

Lauren Thompson moves from her home in Michigan to New York for schooling.  She's staking out a new life for herself, one where no one knows of her tragic past and treats her differently because of it.  Shortly after moving in, Lauren meets Mishca Volkov and sparks fly.

Mishca Volkov, is not at all what he's made out to be. He hides a secret identity and holds things in that could affect those around him.  Mishca finds himself pulled towards Lauren, and he can't let go even when he knows he should.  Because Mishca can't be selfish in his choices, because he's involved in his father's mafia network.

What Lauren, doesn't know, is that there is a connection between Mishca and herself through her deceased father. Until things start coming back to her, memories long buried rising to the front of her mind.

In the Beginning pulls you in from the start and keeps the surprises coming.  The characters have such a chemistry that its easy enough to see just why they are pulled together, and the plot keeps you guessing as to what's coming next.   This book was a wonderful beginning to the trilogy and at the end, definitely left you wanting more of Mishca and Lauren's story.

Book 2: Until the End

Until the End, is the second book in the trilogy, and man is it even more Action packed and emotional than book one.  When we begin the story, Mishca and Lauren are pretty far apart, both still reeling from events in the last book.  But, pretty soon, Lauren and Mishca come to a decision and work towards being  in a relationship, being a team again, though it means changes for each of them in different ways.  Until the End drags you through many many emotions and keeps you on the edge, especially the ending which leaves you questioning just how far this series is going to take you.  The book adds a little more to the love story building and gives just a glimpse of how far Mishca is willing to go for the woman he loves.

Book 3: The Final Hour

The Final Hour is the Thrilling conclusion to this action packed, emotional romance. After the cliffhanged in book two, I was glad to be able to quickly jump into this story.   What an amazing and wild ride this series has been.  Mishca and Lauren's life together has been one hit after another.  Danger lurking, secrets coming out, unknown and known enemies and now they are caught up in a major war brewing.

I came into this book, not knowing what to expect because previous books have left me shocked and I was not let down. This book was filled with excitement, full of ranging emotions, fear, love, respect, nerves wracked all about, all leading up to the conclusion of the story.

The Volkov Bratva Trilogy is a unique take on romance in the world of the mafia.  Each book brings different twists, new questions asked and some answered, and new dangers to both Mishca and Lauren.  All three books together make up a Tangled Web surrounding Mishca and Lauren and how they try to make it all work because of their love for each other.  I enjoyed each book of the series and as a whole found it to be an extreme rush to read.  I rate each book and the series overall with 4 stars.
