Blog Tour: Burn by Dawn Altieri

Meet the Author:

A lifelong resident of northern New Jersey, Dawn Altieri has been scribbling stories practically since birth. After reaching a milestone birthday (she won’t say which one), she figured it was about time she took a shot at writing professionally. With an overactive imagination and a slightly twisted mind, she enjoys reading dark and dangerous tales almost as much as writing them. When she’s not curled up on the sofa with her laptop, her latest story, a box of chocolates and a cup of tea (or a glass of wine, depending on the time of day), she can be found volunteering in the world of animal rescue. She shares her home with her husband and daughter, and a menagerie of rescued fur-babies.

About the Book:

Chloe Addison is on the verge of a promising career in real estate development until an explosion destroys her first major project and casts suspicion on her in an arson investigation. Her career is suddenly at risk—and possibly her life. Firefighter Ryan Monroe wants a spot on the arson team, and getting close to Chloe might be the best way to solve his first investigation. Despite a painful past of his own, Ryan has dedicated himself to saving people, and when he realizes Chloe is in danger, she’s no exception. He just might be the perfect guy to rescue her, but their attraction could bring them both down in flames.

EXCERPT

“There’s about eighty thousand people in Ridgeport,” Ryan said, still surveying the streets below. “And on any given day, there’re fires, car accidents, construction mishaps, heart attacks, drug overdoses… You name it, we’ve got it.” He faced her again, his eyes soft and contemplative. “And every third day, I’m right in the middle of all of it.”

Chloe swallowed past the lump of worry lodging itself in her throat. “I know.”

The ear-splitting shriek of the firehouse alarm sounded beneath them, and Chloe jumped as the dispatcher’s voice boomed through the night air, muffled by the brick walls. Ryan ran his hand along her shoulder to soothe her. A moment later, an engine rumbled to life down below, sending a tremor through the entire building.

“That’s Engine Three. You should feel it inside the cab. When Coop’s got us going at a good clip, it’d give any amusement park ride a run for its money. The ladder truck’s even stronger. You’d think an earthquake was hitting when you’re up here.”

“You must spend a lot of time up here if you can recognize all the trucks based on how much they shake the building.”

He laughed and threw a quick glance down toward his boots. “Not so much anymore, but I used to be up here a lot, especially after I got hurt and I couldn’t work for a while. I hung around the house all the time watching everything. Learning.”

The engine rolled out of the garage, sirens wailing and lights flashing as it rushed off to a call. Ryan faced Chloe, and his eyes filled with a sincerity she’d rarely seen in other men. Not in Christopher. Certainly not in her father.

“This is me,” he said. “It’s who I am. Even now, I’m not even on shift, and every part of me wants to run down there and hop on that damned truck and do whatever I can to help, wherever they’re going. It’s not something I can turn off at the end of the day.”

“I know.” The jacket did little to ward off the chill she felt at his words, but she pulled it tighter around her. She stepped toward him, wishing he wasn’t so close to the edge despite the four-foot high concrete border preventing them from falling. “I love that about you, how selfless you are.”

He shook his head with a disagreeing laugh. “I’m not selfless. I’m one of the most selfish people I know. I need this, to feel good about myself, to feel like I have some kind of purpose. And not in a flashy way, like Jeremy. I don’t need the bugles or the commendations or the pats on the back like I’m some kind of hero. I need it for myself. But all this…” he swung an arm out over the city. “This is hard. If we do this, you’re going to be scared, and you’re going to worry, and some nights, you’re going to hate me for this job. But you’ve got to be okay with it. It won’t work if you’re not. And I’ll understand if you’re not, but I have to know now before I get in so deep I can’t dig my way out. I made that mistake once, and I can’t make it again.”

Release Blast: Saving Grace by Aubrey Wynne

The ghost of the Pungo Witch meets a shattered heart.

SAVING GRACE
Enchanted Keepsakes #1
Aubrey Wynne
Releasing May 1, 2017
Plato Publishing

The ghost of the Pungo Witch meets a shattered heart.

Jackson Hahn, Virginia Beach's local historian, has his eyes on the mysterious new woman in town. When she enters his office, he is struck by her haunting beauty and the raw pain in her eyes. Her descriptions of the odd events happening in her bungalow pique his curiosity.

Chloe Hicks' life consisted of an egocentric ex-husband, a pile of bills, and an equine business in foreclosure until a fire destroys the stable and her beloved ranch horse. What little hope she has left is smashed after the marshal suspects arson. She escapes the accusing eyes of her hometown, but not the memories and melancholy.

The sexy historian distracts Chloe with the legend of a woman wrongly accused of witchcraft. She is drawn to the story and the similarities of events that plagued their lives. Perhaps the past can help heal the present. But danger lurks in the shadows...

SYNOPSIS:

Wyatt Montgomery knows a barrel of legendary Zoria imperial stout will help his Denver gastropub stay on top. The only problem is the brewery that made it is no longer in business. When Wyatt hears the brewmaster has only one barrel left, he won’t stop until it’s his. He doesn’t consider what this mythical barrel might cost him. And he certainly doesn’t anticipate his reaction to the heart-stoppingly beautiful brewmaster he needs to convince to sell him the beer. When Wyatt rushes into Bec Dempsey’s small-town cooperative offering to buy the last barrel of her precious Zoria, she’s thrown for a loop. She’s been burned by city-slickers before, and she’ll be damned if she’ll let it happen again. But when things start heating up between them, Bec decides to make Wyatt a counteroffer. One she hopes he won’t refuse.

REVIEW

To guarantee the future sucess of his gastropub, Wyatt needs something different. Something special, something to draw in customers over his competition. The fabled last barrel of Zoria sounds like just the thing to do the trick, if he can get his hands on it.

Bec didn't want to close down her brewery and she'd do just about anything to be able to restart it and earn back her reputation. More than the loss of her dreams, the closing of Antero brewery meant a heart break for Bec and a huge loss of trust.  When Wyatt comes into her small town wanting to buy the last barrel of Zoria, something precious to her, Bec knows she can't allow the past to repeat itself; which means she wonders if she can trust Wyatt or not.

Bec agrees to sell Wyatt the Zoria IF and only if he completes some tasks for her in addition to purchasing the barrel. But what neither Bec or Wyatt expect is to find themselves attracted to one another.  With a few unexpected hiccups along the way Wyatt attempts to do just what Bec asked him to, what she needs him to do.

Love on Tap was a fun story, pulling me in from page one and leaving me hooked, curious to see if Wyatt would succeed and what would come of the amazing chemistry that was clear from their first meeting.  The underlying issues with Bec's brewery and Wyatt's competition add just the right amount of drama to the story.  Wyatt's determination to follow through on Bec's wishes, and his quick thinking at times to get his way was entertaining.  Bec's struggles with her trust issues and how she was working through them as she worked with Wyatt made things interesting.

Love on Tap wasn't your usual love story, which really worked for me. The lovely twist on the usual - a female brewmaster made the story a huge win for me.  That it wasn't completely predictable also worked in the books favor.  This was my first read by Meg Benjamin and I'm curious to see what she'll bring to the book world in the future.

Red Flags…
Too loud.
Too clingy.
Too much make-up.
I could go on and on. The other guys in the Single Dad’s Club would say I’m obsessed with finding them. But none of their kid’s mothers call a maximum-security prison home either, so their opinions mean shit.
Caterina Santora has her own list of red flags…
She’s too young.
She’s my client’s daughter.
She’s my five-year old’s camp counselor.
Even after repeating this mantra to myself every morning on the way to Lily’s summer camp, guess what happens the moment I see Cat? Yeah, that mantra turns into ride me, doggie style and reverse cowgirl.
Every. Damn. Time.
The fact that she doesn’t remember me from seven years before grates on me until I don’t have it in me to leave her alone any longer. I have to have her. But our lives are opposites in every way. In no way compatible.
When we’re together all the complications fade away and I have to keep reminding myself, even if I can have her— I can’t keep her.
