I scooched my chair in toward the table, trying to put a little more space between Jackson and me, but he wasn’t having it. He put both hands on the back of my chair, then leaned in close. “Hi, Willa.” “Uh . . . hi.” I shivered at the heat from his chest on my bare shoulders. Why was he standing so close? My parents were right there. Our table was one of four tall, square ones in the center of the room and there was plenty of space between tables. Plenty. P-L-E-N-T-Y. But was Jackson using any of that plentiful space? No sirree. He stayed pressed against the back of my chair, like there were only three inches of usable space behind him, not three feet. My skin prickled he was so close. I tried to nudge my chair forward again but it barely moved. Sweat beaded on my temples and I pulled in a shaking breath. Jackson’s woodsy, rich scent was everywhere. It overpowered the stale beer, pizza and peanuts, and I inhaled a deep breath, unable to resist. Sexy Hot Forest. That’s what they’d call his cologne.

| I've been waiting for Timid since the moment I finished Tattered, curious to see how things would work out between Jackson and Willa and what they'd face together in their story. From the glimpses we got of Jackson's past in Tattered, we knew he'd been through a lot and had to have emotional baggage, but getting more details, really feeling his hurt and seeing his trust issues, well that tugged on my heart. What I really liked about Jackson is he's a good guy, one of the best, but he doesn't know it because no one has ever really shown him his worth before. So of course he struggles with that - and that develops a few problems once things really get going between him and Willa. Willa has always loved Jackson, from the moment she saw him she's wanted him and known they were meant to be. That doesn't mean life has always been easy watching from the sidelines waiting for him to notice her, anxious for him to see that she's the one. Shy and quiet Willa thought the moment had finally come only to discover it was a trick of fate, one that would soon to be fixed and the path for these two would start anew. Jackson and Willa's story is a long, emotional journey. A story of finding your worth, finding value in others and above all else letting go of the bad and facing your fears so you can discover the better waiting for you. There were times I wanted to bop Jackson on the head and tell him to open his eyes and really see what he had found in Willa, but on the other hand I also understood the depths of his fears, of his worry, of his constant feeling that something could/would go wrong. With each page that I read, with each word imprinted on my heart and mind, I fell madly in love with these two characters and I was swept up in their emotions, right into the heart of the battle they didn't even know they were fighting. I was impressed with the surprises and shocks that came as the story progressed, ups and downs I didn't expect right alongside those that I did. With an amazing cast of side characters we knew and loved from book one, and new ones to know, Timid sunk me deep into Lark Cove and left me not wanting to leave. Perry has an amazing way with words, they make the story a living thing, a part of you, one you can't escape and don't want to. I cannot wait to see what awaits me in future books of the series, one thing is for certain though, I'll be in for quite a ride |
