About Grasping Air: We were the seconds after a grip released the bar, body floating through the air with nervous wonder. Would we successfully grab it again, or would we hit the mat, shattered and defeated?   Peyton Adams learned a long time ago that selfish and detached is the only way to be in life. What most people call shameless or obnoxious behavior, she considers key to getting where she needs to go. Most disapproving of all? USA Gymnastics’ golden boy with an eight-pack, Jared Hargrove. After being cut from the women’s team right before Rio, Peyton is back on the post-Summer Games tour. Not only is she the only one without a gold medal, but her history with Jared won’t stay buried for long.   Control and good manners; the two things drilled into Jared Hargrove’s head from birth. As a four-time gold medalist, he’s always obeyed the rules and reaped the reward. Well, except for the whirlwind week four years ago in London when wild-child Peyton Adams finally got under his skin, and into his bed. She broke his heart, and he hasn’t removed the ice wall around it since. Now she’s back to redeem herself to the world of gymnastics, and it seems, to push his buttons more than ever.   After years of resentment and heartache, can they repair a relationship so badly broken that most people wouldn’t even try? Or will they continue to fall, grasping at any last emotion before they finally collapse? Amazon

REVIEW:

Grasping Air is a second chance romance story with an Olympic style twist.

Peyton and Jared have a history, and though thing ended badly with them, there really wasn't much known about it to others beyond the career side.  They parted on bad terms, so when they find themselves on tour with each other again, things are bound to get interesting.

Both of these characters are strong people with their own determination, they've learned from their past how to behave in a manner that lets them get by.  But it isn't really conducive to having a healthy relationship outside of their careers.

Grasping Air took me on a journey filled with emotions, that left my heart flipping to see what would happen next and how things would work out for these two people.  There was such a push and pull between these two though their chemistry and connection was undeniable. Though at times I was a little annoyed with some of their behaviors or didn't understand certain actions, it all came together as the story progressed and I fell deeper in love with the characters and their story.

These two had a lot to work through, a long -term grudge, their own inner demons, and the hate they held for each other.  Being forced on tour together really worked out in their favor though and they found that the love they had for each other hadn't just disappeared even as they wished it had at times.

Paisley Madison dreams of having a real home for herself and her sister's children. When a handsome baseball player drops into her life, she knows a gift when she sees one and hires herself as his assistant.

Paisley startled awake early. She bolted upright and winced when her back protested. Ignoring her whiny body parts, she blinked several times and squinted, attempting to get her bearings. The morning sun cast beams of light across the room and over the sleeping children. Last night flooded back to her in a rush of confusion and hope.
Being drenched. The hot baseball player. The old, creepy house. The pizza.
Checking each child to make sure they were all still asleep, Paisley rose, stretched, and padded out of the bedroom in her bare feet. The place didn’t look so creepy in the daylight. In fact, despite the obvious neglect, it was beautiful. She took her time exploring each room, except the closed door to Zeke’s room.
Zeke. Holy mother of all creation, he was hot. And he was wealthy. She wasn’t a gold digger by any means, but he had the money to pay her for a job well done, which had her wheels turning. She believed in making wine out of any beer that life threw her way. She’d keep her hands off and prove her value to Zeke. He needed someone to manage his life and battle the dust and spiders staking their claim on this grand old house.
He needed her.
Zeke’s house wasn’t just a house; it was a mansion by her standards. Much to her delight, it was perched on a hill among older homes overlooking Seattle and the water. She couldn’t wait to explore the stately old neighborhood. What she could see from the windows indicated the other homes were well kept, unlike Zeke’s. His yard needed as much work as the inside. She’d tackle that project, too.
Yeah, the poor man really needed her, and she’d make sure he knew it.
The house had seen better days and was in need of updating and TLC, but the potential shone through like an unpolished diamond among common rocks, and the view was priceless.
Last night’s deluge gave way to a partially cloudy morning with patches of blue sky. Rays of sun bounced off drops of rain on the leaves of nearby trees. The sun lit up the large expanse of water below. She hadn’t a clue whether it was part of the ocean or something else.
A few rooms in the house were stacked with boxes. Stray pieces of furniture were placed here and there. Zeke didn’t appear to have much in the way of personal belongings. She added shopping for furniture to her assistant to-do list. She’d create a design for each room with an overarching theme among them. Judging from the age of the house and the style, she’d opt for mission style, one of her favorites.
Paisley rubbed her hands together in glee, excited and ready to get started with her day. The kids could help. On Monday, she’d need to enroll them in a local school despite their lack of an actual home. During her nosy explorations she’d found a temporary option. The daylight basement level of this house had been converted into an apartment. It had big windows looking into the backyard and down the hill.
Perfect for her and the kids, and perfect for keeping them out of Zeke’s hair.
Now to work on selling her worth to Zeke. Her strict adherence to maintaining a positive outlook in all situations—last night being an exception—would serve her well. Zeke was a busy athlete just starting the season. Baseball players played over one hundred and fifty games a year, not counting playoffs. He’d be gone a lot to away games.
He absolutely needed her. Oh, yes, he did. She skipped up the stairs, singing a nonsensical happy song the kids loved. Cracking the door, she checked on them again. They were dead to the world. She couldn’t resist a glance into the room Zeke slept in. His suitcase was open on top of a rumpled comforter, but true to his word, he’d left early this morning. She’d heard his SUV as it backed out of the garage.
With a big grin on her face and a bounce in her step, she started her chores in the kitchen, giving it a thorough scrubbing after finding cleaning supplies under the sink. Later, she’d unpack dishes and put them in the cupboards.
The kitchen was beautiful under all the grime and dust. It’d been remodeled recently and had gorgeous wood cabinets, granite countertops, and stainless steel appliances with a professional stove and oven. The previous owners must have run out of money during the kitchen remodel. The backsplashes were missing and the walls were unpainted, as if someone had stripped off layers of wallpaper, then left.
She stood back, hands on hips, and surveyed her work. The kitchen was gleaming. Everything was in its place.
Zeke would be pleasantly surprised.

Bottom of the Ninth is another fabulous addition to Jami Davenport's Game On in Seattle series.  This time delivering the story of Zeke Wolfe.

Zeke tries to keep his life out of the media. He's known for his quiet down low lifestyle and for who his brothers are. Only the media doesn' t know that he has nor wants a relationship with them. So like everything else, he plays it off with the media, pretending things are just fine, while internally fervently denying it.  He's upset about his trade to Seattle, because he doesn't like the team but also becasue it pulls him right into his brother's line of sight again.

Paisley is struggling, taking on her sister's kids and trying to protect them from their father and their traumatic past, she's come to Seattle prepared to help heal them and move on. But nothing goes according to plan, her living situation gets unsettled before she even really hit town and then her vehicle dies, leaving her and the kids stranded in the rain. To make matters worse, a speeding car just splashed them all to soaking. But the drive backs up and steps out and nothing is the same after.

Zeke doesn't like kids, he doesn't want a girlfriend and he certainly doesn't want to have a woman and kids prowling around his new home, so why did he just agree to take Paisley and her crew home with him for the night?

Bottom of the Ninth had me laughing often, but also broke my heart too.  Both Zeke and the kids have been through so much and have been deeply hurt by those that should have loved and taken care of them.  I loved how Zeke was falling not just for Paisley but also the kids, even if he didn't realize it.

There was a lot going on for Zeke, his feelings of inadequacy and a desire to be loved were at the heart of most of it.  I felt sorry for him and knew that while it was fair that he was wary of his brothers, that he needed to talk to them to get some form of closure on that aspect.  And he needed to open himself of to Love.

This was probably one of my favorite books in the series, because I really formed a connection to both Zeke and Paisley and their struggles. They felt like real people that I'd want to hang around in real life and their struggles were real and I could understand them. The kids added an extra bit to the story, they added emotion, they gave Zeke something to work with, he knew they had suffered and he didn't want them to remember it for the rest of their lives. I loved the interactions between Zeke and the kids.

Bottom of the Ninth was a beautifully written story that was about so much more than romance. It was about family, it was about fighting your inner demons and winning, and it was about finding forgiveness, if not for others, for yourself, so YOU can move on.   I really loved that both Zeke and Paisley had struggles, they both had things in their past they fought against, and I really think that had they not found one another, they would have continued to drag their feet in moving past it all.  Together they found a way to heal.

Low Over High (The Over Duet #1)
Cover Design: DCP Designs
Release Date: November 14, 2016

Synopsis
I fancy myself a purveyor of truth, a sifter of lies, a cutter of bullshit. It’s not a gift, but rather, all skill, honed to a razor’s edge after one too many trips down the rabbit hole. Some may dismiss my talent as misplaced and misguided cynicism, but they’d be wrong. Cliches about hope and faith in mankind are concocted unicorn farts, an effort to keep the dreamers dreaming. Experiences don’t lie—people do. While I’m not proud of the circumstances that led me to this way of thinking, I respect the journey. The road to enlightenment can be dark and foreboding, but the destination makes it all worthwhile. But funny thing about the past—it’s a defiant child refusing to stay in time out. No matter how deeply buried, it can always pop up when least expected, and sink its fucking claws into the flesh of your heart. No, not my heart—I no longer have one. I foolishly gave it away years ago, but I still feel the ripping in my chest as I fist the crumpled note left on my porch. I’ve avoided this day, ran from it, for the past eight years. And still we meet again. But to truly understand … to feel my dread and fear my future as I do, it’s important to know what happened in my past. Or who… My name is Marlo Rivers, and this is my story of corrupted love.

Blurb
STEPSISTER. He hated that f*cking word.

When their parents got married, the only thing Caleb Luxan had in common with Wren Brashill was that they both hated their parents. When he was sixteen, Caleb discovered Wren's closely guarded secret and vowed to protect her: from that day forward she became the reason for every decision he made.

Jealousy and long-suppressed desire overpowered Caleb's fierce protectiveness and they spent one forbidden and unforgettable night in each other arms, but the aftermath left Caleb panicked, Wren heartbroken, and their relationship in shambles. In the time since that fateful night, he’d only seen her once and had only managed to make the situation even worse.

The sudden death of his estranged father calls Caleb home and face-to-face with Wren for first time in years. He is presented with a choice that forces him to confront the painful memories of his youth and his many regrets with Wren.

Like it or not, his father's last, hard lesson, will demand Caleb deal with his long denied emotions for Wren, or let go of her forever.

Excerpt
Caleb’s muscled frame was rigid and as Wren looked at him, she studied his profile, and could feel his coiled tension.  The fingers in his right hand curled into a fist.  “I was so mad.  So many times, I wished he’d been the one to die.”  His voice was full of pain, as the words tore from him.  “I fucking hated him with every breath I took.  You saw how much.”
Wren nodded, though he didn’t see her acquiescence.  She knew what he went through growing up when they had formed an affable alliance against their parents.  She hated her mother at least as much as Caleb hated his father and she understood his anger and pain; then the apathy that became a welcome alternative.  They’d been unlikely allies against a common enemy.
“Maybe I deserved his indifference.”
Wren got up and went to Caleb, standing behind him as he stood still as stone, and staring out the window.  Her heart ached with love and grief for Caleb. She wanted to touch him; to offer reassurance, to take away the ache in his voice and heart.  Without considering her actions, her arms slipped around his waist and she pressed up against his strong back and leaned her head against him, between his shoulder blades.
Caleb was massive in comparison to her, and she was like a flower curling around him.  Her hands fanned out against his hard stomach, her fingers finding the definition of his abs beneath his shirt.   “Stop, Cale.  I won’t let you do this to yourself.  Your dad wouldn’t want that.  None of it was your fault.”  Her arms slid fully around him and held him tight against her body. “I can’t bear it.  You’ve had enough pain.  Enough.”
Caleb sucked in a deep breath, the action bringing her even closer.  He could feel every curve of her body pressed so closely against his back.  He could feel her breathing, could feel how she shared his pain.  His hand came up and he ran the flat of his hand from her elbow down to her hand, and then wrapped his fingers around hers.
“When did you turn into the strong one?”
Wren’s arms tightened around him.  “When I met you. ”
“Oh, Wren.” Should he just spill his guts? Would it fix everything?  “I’ve got so much to say to you.  How long can you stay?”
She nodded against him, unwilling to end the contact between their bodies; needing the closeness as much as he did.
He wanted to apologize for how he acted the last time he’d seen her, he wanted to say a hundred things… he needed her forgiveness.
“How long do you need me?”
In that moment a miracle happened; a sort of beautiful irony that taunted Caleb with it’s fragileness.  It was as if he’d never screwed everything up between them.  But would it stay this way?
How long do I need you? Caleb thought.  His heart raced to the point of exploding, and he wondered if Wren could feel it.
Forever.

Review:

One Step Closer is not your typical step-brother romance. This story has a lot of other elements, including a meddling father who thought he knew best, an evil step-mother, time and distance, and a death in the family to bring them all together again.

Wren is a sweet, little thing, she's a dancer, satisified with her life as it stands.  When her step-father dies, her concern lies with how her step-brother, Caleb will handle the death. But Wren doesn't expect things to change.

Caleb is a gruff guy, angry at the his father and sometimes it feels like the world in general. When he returns home to take care of matters with his father's estate, he's unsure how to proceed as he unexpectedly discovers his father's last wishes which alter the past and his future in some ways.

I really liked the journey this book took us on, not just the romantic journey for Wren and Caleb, but his emotional one in regards to coming to terms with his father and the past.  This story built up tension and emotions were high at times, but that just drew me in fuller and kept me on my toes.

It was easy to understand all the ways that life happened around Wren and Caleb and how the decisions of others affected them. But their connection stayed strong, no matter the distance between them.  There were a lot of secrets and lies among them, most at the sake of others but they had a lot to work through together.

I really enjoyed how Aymes pulled all of the story together, woven deeply with the past and present displayed to give us the full details. The emotions were written with such feeling, that it was difficult to not feel them deeply as I read them, I alternated between wanting to cry for the characters, or give them a big hug.

Smiling at her, I decided right then and there that she was one of the most beautiful women I’d ever laid eyes on.  Even though she didn’t have an ounce of make-up on and her hair was a wild mess, she was so naturally flawless that I knew I would compare all other girls in my life to her.  That should have shocked me, sent me turning from her, but it only made me smile bigger.

“Dax,” she whispered and looked down at my lips one las time.  “You’re Krista’s nephew.”
Without talking I slowly leaned forward and placed my head against hers, feeling her body tighten with the feeling of us touching.  “I know,” I said and closed my eyes.
I pulled back and felt her wanting to move, but for some reason I couldn’t let that happen.  My body had a mind of its own at that point and I couldn’t do anything to stop it.  Lena’s breath hitched when I reached forward and placed a long piece of hair behind her ear.  “You’re so fucking beautiful.  Do you know that?  How gorgeous you are?”
“Stop,” she said with a laugh and tried to play my comment off as a joke, but I wasn’t joking.
“You are.  You have no idea what you’re doing to me.”
Lena raked her eyes over my body and looked up at me with doe eyes.  “Why?  I’m so much older than you.  You could go out and get any girl your age.  I’m not even close to your league.”
Reaching my thumb up to her wets lips did all the talking for me.  I brushed it slowly across her mouth, which automatically made her open slightly for me.  She sucked in my thumb making me let out a low growl, and before we both knew it my mouth was on hers and we were kissing like we we’d never get enough.

Your wedding day is supposed to be the happiest day of your life, right? That’s what they say, at least. I went into that day hoping I’d get the happiest day of my life. What I got? The worst. I mean, you really can’t get any worse of a day without someone actually dying.

So…I may have gotten just a little drunk, and maybe just a tad impetuous…

And landed myself in a dive bar somewhere in Alaska, alone, still in my wedding dress, half-wasted and heart-broken.

  ***

Eight brothers, one bar.

Sounds like the beginning to a bad joke, yeah?

I kinda think so.

Wanna hear another joke? A girl walks into a bar, soaking wet and wearing a wedding dress.

I knew I shouldn’t have touched her. She was hammered, for one thing, and heartbroken for another. I’ve chased enough tail to know better. That kinda thing only leads to clinginess, and a clingy female is the last thing on this earth I need.

I got a bar needs running, and only me to run it—at least until my seven wayward brothers decide to show their asses up…

Then this chick walks in, fine as hell, wearing a soaked wedding dress that leaves little enough to the imagination—and I’ve got a hell of an imagination.
I knew I shouldn’t have touched her. Not so much as a finger, not even innocently.

But I did.
