About The Fixer: He’s known only as Wren. A wealthy, dangerously secretive man, he specializes in making problems disappear. A professional fixer, Wren hides a dark past, but his privacy is shattered when Emery Finn seeks him out—and what she wants from him is very personal.   Some people disappear against their will. Emery’s job is to find them and bring closure. Wren is the only person who can help solve Emery’s own personal mystery: the long-ago disappearance of her cousin. Just tracking down the sexy, brooding Wren is difficult enough. Resisting her body’s response to him will prove completely impossible.   Anonymity is essential to Wren’s success, yet drawn by Emery’s loyalty and sensuality, he’s pulled out of the shadows. But her digging is getting noticed by the wrong people. And as the clues start to point to someone terrifyingly close, Wren will have to put his haunted past aside to protect the woman he loves.

    Exclusive Excerpt:

She handed him a water bottle and sat down on the opposite end on the love seat, as far from him as possible, which amounted to a half cushion away. “I wasn’t sure you’d come over when I called.” The bottle made a crinkling noise when he grabbed on to it. “Why not?” He didn’t mention that she’d used his emergency private number for a nonemergency, so neither did she. “You kind of ran out of here last night.” Then she’d thought about him all night while Tyler sat there talking about his new job and the new city he loved. Emery had been happy for him, even as a part of her grumbled that it had been so easy for him to move on and never mention Tiffany. For most of the night she’d been guilty of the same sin. As he talked, her mind switched to Wren. The sound of his voice. The way his muscles felt through his shirt. She certainly wouldn’t have won any Good Friend prize for her mental wanderings. “You had company. Something and someone else to occupy your time.” Wren didn’t look at her as he set the unopened bottle on the coffee table. She took in the stiffness of his shoulders and the fact he hadn’t even bothered to take off his suit jacket. He walked in and went to the couch because she told him to have a seat. Very little else had transpired except for her why-am-I-doing-this panicked race to the kitchen for water. “Don’t do that.” He leaned back on the cushions and faced her. “What?” Gone was the easy flow of conversation from last night and the touching. Yeah, he didn’t look even a little interested in touching, which was a damn shame. “You sound all haughty and businesslike.” “You may have just summed up the majority of my personality.” He smiled but the gesture didn’t quite reach his eyes. It looked forced and disappeared right after it happened. She tugged on the wrapper around her water bottle. Picked at the end until she could rip off a nice long piece. “I don’t buy that. Not anymore.” His gaze bounced from her hands to her face. “What changed?” “I don’t even know. Maybe it’s a sense or a hope.” Of course, neither of those explained why the air in the room was all but suffocating her. “Ah.” Talk about an unhelpful response. She put the bottle on the table next to his and sat back again, just inches away from him. “Does that mean you get what I’m saying?” “Not even a little bit.” She would have laughed at that if the tension strangling her in a bear hug would ease. “Any chance I could get you to take off your jacket? Maybe loosen that tie.” “You still seem overly concerned with my wardrobe.” But he relaxed a little. Sank back into the cushions and rested his arm across the top. “It’s like armor.” His fingers tapped against the love seat. “It’s wool, I believe.” “Now you’re being a gigantic pain in the ass, just because you can.” The guy could not take a hint. She was dying to get him out of the suit. She could pretend this had to do with wanting to know he was human and to loosen him up. Yeah, there was some of that, but this was really about wanting more from him.

EXCERPT

With eight months left of our senior year, the countdown to graduation ticking in everyone’s ears, Dallas and I collided in the only way two people like us could.
Some of the kids I went to school with knew my dad, for obvious reasons. Unfortunately, that meant that sometimes they came looking for me when he stiffed them a half-gram or flaked out on orders. None of them seemed to understand that it wasn’t a family-run operation.
One particular buyer, a guy by the name of Brady, caught up to me on my way home from school one day, wanting to score.
Probably in more than one way.
Brady was rude in the way that only misogynistic jocks can be. He was an ass-pincher and tit-grabber extraordinaire. And God, was he annoying.
Because I didn’t hear him come up behind me, he went so far as to literally pluck the iPod buds out of my ears to get my attention. Silly me, I guess, for being caught unaware.
Already pissed off, I turned to find him in his letterman jacket, spitting a stream of tobacco dangerously close to my foot. He smoothed back his too-long hair and replaced his hat. "Hey, Colt. Your padre ain’t answerin’ his phone. I need some coke for this thing tonight. How much for an eightball?"
I yanked my headphones out of his fingers. "Brady. For the thousandth fucking time, I don’t mess with that shit. And if you had any brain cells left they’d be telling you to find something better to do with your time."
My elbow caught him in the ribs as I tried to shove past him, barely hard enough for him to notice, but apparently hard enough to send him from zero to dickhead in under two seconds.
He shoved my shoulder with one of his huge hands, spinning me back into the fence behind me. "Listen, don’t bullshit me—I know all you ghetto kids are hooked up." He grinned a sharky, Kevorkian grin. "So hook me up."
My father’s temper flared up as the fence-wire scraped the back of my legs. That overpowering urge to teach Brady a lesson written in his own blood. I forced it down, at least for the moment. I took my time tucking my iPod into my backpack, Brady’s eyes following my every move. I brushed my hair back from my shoulders and gave him my nicest, sweetest smile.
"Alright, Brady, here’s what I’m gonna do for you. I’m gonna walk away, before you make me late for work, instead of smacking that smile off your face." I pointed left with my whole arm. "And I’ll even send you in the right direction to score, unless you’re too much of a pansy-ass white boy to step foot in my neighborhood."
Brady’s face darkened and his linebacker’s shoulders pulled back. "You calling me a bitch, Alvarez?" The way his voice got higher with his pride wounded struck me as hilariously ironic, and I laughed, not bothering to try and contain it. I laughed right in his face.
"No, Brady. I’m calling you a fucking spoiled, entitled mama’s boy who’s such a pussy he’d order coke off Amazon if he could, just to avoid rubbing shoulders with the tough motherfuckers who deal it." I shot him another overly sweet smile and turned to go, hoping I’d manage to make it to the garage on time, wondering if my boss would give me a hard time for being late.
Brady, however, wasn’t ready to let it go. He grabbed my arm at the wrist, twisting and pulling me backward hard. When I yanked away from him, the momentum sent me stumbling forward. As I dropped my bag and got my arms up to defend myself, I caught sight of Dallas at the end of the street, already running in our direction.
Brady was nearly purple in the face, babbling a mix of swear words and racial slurs, already reaching for me again. I slapped his hand away.
"Drop it, Brady. I’m not joking."
He closed the space between us with one step, grabbing the front of my shirt and curling it into his fist. "You fuckin’ spic," he breathed at me, a vein in his forehead poking out. "You think you can talk to me like that?" The tobacco in his lip was dribbling out, a thin stream of juicy brown spit trickling from the corner of his mouth.
Past the nonsense Brady was spewing, I could vaguely make out Dallas’s voice, yelling Brady’s name. When Brady’s eyes flicked off of mine to find Dallas, I wound up as best I could and socked him in the jaw. Tobacco-spit went flying; my knuckles exploded with pain, and Brady’s hand unclenched, releasing my shirt.
I stepped back from him just as Dallas closed the last few feet and skidded to a stop next to me. "Dude!" he barked at Brady. "What the hell are you doing?"
Now fully purple, Brady pointed at me with fingers tipped with blood from his mouth. "Fuckin’ spic bitch was tryin’ to sell me blow. Didn’t wanna take no for an answer."
That Latina temper flared again, and I lunged at Brady, intending to slap him across the face, in the same spot that was already turning red from my right hook. But Dallas caught me around the waist, holding me just shy of arm’s distance from Brady.
"Whoa, whoa, let’s all calm down a sec." Dallas, always the voice of reason. The rock. He leveled a stare at Brady over my shoulder. "Dude, you’re not foolin’ anyone. Whole dang school knows how you party, so let’s cut the bullshit, okay?" His hands loosened from my waist, leaving just the trace of a tingle where his fingerprints had stamped my skin.
Brady narrowed his watering eyes. "Dallas, come on, man." He gestured to me, his tone more disbelieving with each word. "You’re really gonna side with her instead of me? You don’t even know her. I do. She’s a dirty spic, just like her old man."
If Brady had anything else to say, it was cut off when Dallas’s hard right landed in the corner of his mouth. He fell back against the fence, the metal links clanging in protest. I made out a few choice swearwords in between his moans of pain.
And Dallas turned, meeting my eyes for the first time. "How about I walk you home?"

Markus Reeves is sucking. Big-time. Toiling away on a minor-league hockey team hundreds of miles away from home, he's watching his dreams of an NHL career fade away. Add in the lingering guilt he has over the dramatic demise of his relationship with college girlfriend, Mekena, and he's a mess on and off the ice.

But the family of his heart, the Sinclairs, won't let Markus suffer any longer. When he arrives himself back in Nashville for a trial run on the Assassins, it feels like his life may be making a turn for the better. If only he could get Mekena to forgive him...

Mekena Preston has been hurting since fleeing Nashville following the horror of Markus's betrayal with her sister. Now a professional photographer, Mekena finds herself in the same place at the same time with Markus to celebrate Lucy and Benji Paxton's wedding. Neither of them has been able to move on—and they're starting to wonder if they really want to.

They're headed for a face-off at the altar unless they can confront their past and unearth the truth about what really happened on that fateful night.

Watching as Elli crossed the ice, saying hi to everyone she passed, Mekena knew she had to go. Standing, she wobbled a lot, but she still made it to the entry to the ice. She could do this. It wasn’t that hard. Just like walking—on water. No big deal.
Oh, God, she was going to die, and everyone was going to see it.
Swallowing hard, she stepped out on the ice and figured she could ride the side of the boards to him. Elli was already there, gushing over the kids and kissing all over the guy Mekena assumed was her nephew. And holy hot genes. Dark hair, bright blue eyes, and a jawbone that could slice the ice. He was beautiful, just like his uncle and his momma. Tall, too, and thick. Obviously a hockey player. That should have given her a little more confidence to skate over there, but instead, her fingers dug into the siding as she slowly made her way toward them.
When Elli looked up, Mekena let go of the sides and waved. “I’m a little slow. I’m coming!”
Elli said something to Ryan, whose eyes lit up when he looked over at her. As he detangled himself from the kids that were trying to climb him like a wall, she figured he was coming to help.
Oh, no, that was embarrassing.
No, she could skate. She had it!
Letting go of the siding, she went with ease. And at first, things were good. She was skating! But as well as it was going, it suddenly went very bad. She felt her knee bend funny and then her body start to fall. And as the ice came into view, she let out a cry, waiting for the ice to break not only her glasses but her nose too. Maybe her teeth.
But she didn’t fall.
No, instead, someone had her by her hips, pulling her up and to her feet.
“Whoa there, girlie. I thought you knew what you were doing?”
Markus.
Everything inside her went hot. Not from embarrassment but from pure, burning desire. Trying to catch her breath, she looked up at him, his eyes so dark, his mouth so close to her cheek as he smiled.
Crap. Crap on a cracker.
“Markus.”
“Yup, it’s me,” he said, grinning as he stood her on her feet. “Saving your life.”

Review

Face off at the Altar is another fabulous addition to the Assassin's series.  In it, Toni Aleo delivers an emotional second chance romance story that has its own different twist.

Makena and Markus' relationship took a turn for the bad years ago, and it left Makena hurt and full of hate, while Markus suffered his own pain over the ordeal. But Lucy's wedding is about to drag it all up again, and this time Markus isn't walking away without setting a few things straight with Makena.

I really enjoyed the angst and drama build up as Markus struggled with how to explain things to Makena and as she tried to make things okay so she could get through the wedding in one piece.  I really loved how Toni worked in the family issues as well as the other, because as a whole it made for one interesting story.

Second Chances don't come around often, so when a book nails the second chance romance genre it always leaves me with a an extra feeling of happy.  Markus and Makena were amazing together and for them to work through what had torn them apart and be able to move past it made this book a compelling read.

My name is Toni Aleo and I’m a total dork.
I am a wife, mother of two and a bulldog, and also a hopeless romantic.
I am the biggest Shea Weber fan ever, and can be found during hockey season with my nose pressed against the Bridgestone Arena’s glass, watching my Nashville Predators play!
When my nose isn’t pressed against the glass, I enjoy going to my husband and son’s hockey games, my daughter’s dance competition, hanging with my best friends, taking pictures, scrapbooking, and reading the latest romance novel.
I have a slight Disney and Harry Potter obsession, I love things that sparkle, I love the color pink, I might have been a Disney Princess in a past life… probably Belle.
… and did I mention I love hockey?

I’m a lover of all things books, a hopeless romantic, and have always had a passion for writing. Between being a sappy romantic, my love of an HEA, my crazy imagination, and ok, let’s be real, my dirty mind, I fell easily into writing romance. I’m a huge baseball fan and yet, a complete girly, girl. I’m an obsessive reader and have a slight (hahaha! Slight? Yeah, right) addiction to signed books. Why they call it a farmhouse is beyond me. That word paints an image of a little white house with a chicken coop. This is a Southern plantation. A huge, wide porch with pillars looks to encompass the entire place. Mums line whiskey barrels and give the clean exterior pops of burgundy, orange, and yellow. It’s breathtaking.

“This is gorgeous,” I breathe as it comes into full view. “Not what I expected.”

“This is my second favorite place in the world,” he whispers against my ear.

“Second? What could be more perfect that this?”

“Inside you.”

Before he can pull away, I turn my face so my lips capture his. He deepens the kiss, our lips working against one another in perfect harmony. As we pull away, breathless, he grins. “Thank you for coming.”

“I’ll ensure you come later,” I promise.

“Naughty girl,” he chuckles as the car rolls to a stop. “I like it.”

“You will.”

Your brother is coming this weekend
I looked from the phone turned at me up to the person holding the device.
Anything I said would likely be thrown back in my face, so I merely lifted a brow.
Sydney smiled wide, her uniquely yellow eyes dancing under the twinkle lights the coffee shop had hanging. “You know you want to see him.”
Another text came through.
No matchmaking chief. Let them figure it out.
I slouched in the well-worn couch at our favorite coffee shop, my face heating, and shrugged a shoulder. I lifted my mug to my mouth to try and distract myself. Sydney and I had been at Bean There for the last two hours and my macchiato had grown cold, but I needed to do something with my hands.
There was nothing quite like your best friend, and her husband, meddling in your love life…
I met Sawyer Meadows a few years back when Sydney and Caleb had an engagement party. From the moment I met the third Meadows child, I was completely struck by him. His hair was a brassy auburn, brown in some lights but a deep copper in the sun. His eyes, like Sydney’s, were so light a brown, they looked yellow. He was slightly taller than average for a guy, with a body you couldn’t help but want to wrap your arms around.
But more than the physical, Sawyer was a good guy.
He was always cracking jokes, always had a quick smile. He was a good friend to those he cared about, a great brother to Sydney, and an awesome uncle to those chicklets I had the pleasure of referring to as my own nephews and niece, even though I really wasn’t their aunt.
He didn’t visit very much anymore, not since promoting to detective for Salt Lake City’s special crimes task force a few years back, but when he did make his way to San Diego, I could definitely see the changes in him. He tried to hide it, tried to be his jovial self, but I could tell what he did hurt his soul.
He was such a happy, open person; I couldn’t imagine staying that way was an easy feat with the amount of bad he saw day in and out.
He and Sydney had very similar features, so it was easy to miss him every day I didn’t see him or talk to him. Never mind the fact he called her every day and there had been numerous times I was with Sydney when he made his daily call.
I hated that I was envious of my friend for talking to her brother. Sawyer and I used to text, email, or call one another nearly every day. But after I had him meet a guy I’d been seeing, everything just seemed to stop.

Review:

I haven't read all of Mykel's books, but the few I have read, I've instantly fallen in love with her writing style, so I was excited to dive into Saving Grace.

Saving Grace is a beautiful story of friends to lovers. The friendship was built up over years and really shines through how close these two were and how their love gradually built even before they realized it.

I really enjoyed how we got to see their friendship and relationship from all angles, the good, the bad, and everything in between.  We got to see where things went wrong and watch as Sawyer and Grace moved to rebuild it.

Saving Grace was a quick read for me, but it wasn't because the story was too short, it was just that enticing. I needed to know what came next for these two. This book grabbed a hold of my heart and led me on an emotional journey with these two people who found the other half of theirselves.

I look forward to reading more books from Mignon Mykel and seeing where she takes me in them.
