Cover Reveal: Hot Under the Collar by Roxanne St. Clair

New York Times bestselling author Roxanne St. Claire is kicking off a brand new series and we couldn't be more excited about it! Check out the cover for HOT UNDER THE COLLAR and be on the lookout for it soon!

About HOT UNDER THE COLLAR

Firefighter Braden Mahoney is devastated when his beloved Weimaraner, Jelly Bean, fails the canine arson investigator test. Faced with the challenge of raising the money for advanced training, it’s Braden’s sweet grandmother and her best friend who suggest he use the services of the new event planner in town. Not that he needs a push in Cassie Santorini’s direction. Ever since she arrived, Braden has had his eye on the sassy Greek goddess…and can’t stop thinking about getting the rest of him on her, too.
Cassie has spent years putting family first, even moving to Bitter Bark when her mother falls in love with the local veterinarian. Having a huge new extended “family” is fun, especially when one smokeshow of a firefighter attends the gatherings, but Cassie has no plans to remain in this small town. She’s ready to pursue her big city dreams. But when Braden asks for an assist for his precious pup, Cassie agrees to help him set up a town-wide scavenger hunt. It isn’t exactly a hardship to be around those blue eyes and brawny shoulders, especially since they both agree everything – even the undeniable sparks that crackle between them – is temporary.
But when temporary gets complicated by feelings that might lead to forever, Braden and Cassie start to question the direction they're headed. Should they follow their dreams…or their hearts? It’ll take a dog with a bad nose and a sweet soul, two particularly meddlesome grandmas, and some help from the clan that loves them to make sure Cassie and Braden follow the clues and find their way to each other’s arms.
Just like The Dogfather, the covers of The Dogmothers were all photographed at Alaqua Animal Refuge in Florida using rescue dogs and local heroes, and a portion of the first month’s sales of every book is donated to that amazing organization.

About the Dogmothers series

Daniel Kilcannon, a widower with six unmarried kids, has not only orchestrated wonderfully happy endings for all his offspring…he’s found one of his own. That leaves his grown nieces and nephews plus his adult stepkids all in need of their own magical romances. Is The Dogfather too preoccupied with his new lady love to pull the strings and make the matches? Maybe. But there’s a new team in town and these two might be polar opposites in life but they are lined up in love. One grandmother has the steel spine of a Greek warrior, the other has the heart of an Irish poet. Together, along with two darling dachshunds, these Dogmothers won’t stop until all nine of their grandchildren are hooked, hitched, and happy.
When Agnes Santorini arrives in Bitter Bark, she has something to prove. The notoriously nasty Greek grandma seeks to show her growing family that she’s an all new Yiayia, inside and out. At the same time, Finola Kilcannon, the beloved octogenarian Irish blogger, knows that her role as the mistress of Waterford Farm is now in the hands of her son’s fiancĂ©e, and it’s time for Gramma Finnie to start the next chapter in her life. It doesn’t take long for these ladies to realize that they are stronger, better, and way more powerful together than apart, so they move into a Victorian that’s aging as gracefully as they are, and get to work. It takes a wee bit of meddling, a dash of manipulation, and plenty of help from man’s best friend, but the Dogmothers soon become as good as their predecessor, the Dogfather, at orchestrating a happily ever after.
In this new spin-off series, there’s laughter, love, heartache, hope, and happy endings in store for the Mahoney, Santorini, and, of course, the Kilcannon clans. With nine full length novels planned, plus a holiday novella every year, readers are in for a treat that will take them through 2021! Fans of The Dogfather series will find the same level of emotional intensity, familiar family connections and characters, and, of course, an unforgettable dog at the very heart of every story.
Watch for the first two books in 2019: HOT UNDER THE COLLAR (on sale May 31 – preorder now!) THREE DOG NIGHT (coming Fall of 2019) And many, many more!

Title: Off the Record

Author: Taylor Danae Colbert

Genre: Contemporary Romance

About Off the Record:

“Dax Thatcher?” I ask. “But isn’t he sorta. . .old?” Ugh. Celebrities. I mean, I know I took a job as a reporter for the Celebrity and Pop Culture department of our magazine, but it was just supposed to be a stepping stone to the more real stuff. Despite the fact that Dax Thatcher was the subject of many of my teen fantasies--and I may or may not have an entire playlist dedicated to his music--he’s still just another star. Until I meet him. Until his golden eyes pierce through me that day on his Malibu deck. Until I find myself having dinner with him, going backstage with him, lying on the beach with him. And then I remember my assignment: a four-issue feature on Dax Thatcher. . .and his upcoming wedding. I have to focus. I’m a serious journalist, and he is in a serious relationship. But that doesn’t stop me from wondering what those tattooed arms might feel like wrapped around me, or how soft the sheets on his California king bed are. Yikes. This celebrity stuff might be a little more real than I thought.

Exclusive Excerpt:

It’s quiet for a few minutes. I’m not sure what’s running through his head, but I’m sitting here trying to figure out what this is. Is he this nice to everyone that interviews him? Does he make this much time for all reporters? “Your, uh, ink is showing,” he says, and I catch myself staring ahead blankly. “Huh?” He points to my shoulder, which my sweater has abandoned and is sliding down off of. I move quickly to pull it back up. “I wouldn’t have pegged you for the tattoo type,” he says, sitting back in his chair. “Then you’ll be interested to know that I actually have four,” I say, sitting back in mine, trying to exude the same confidence that he is. I feel his eyes scanning my body again, searching all my exposed skin. I point down at my wrist at the half-heart. “My sister has the other half,” I say. He nods. I pull my sweater back again, showing him my shoulder. “These are the coordinates of the apartment I grew up in in Brooklyn.” He nods again, squinting his eyes to see it. I lift my hair and turn away from him slightly. “This is just some dumb design I got when I turned eighteen,” I say, letting him scope out the idiotic starburst that trails down the back of my neck. I had drawn it up on a napkin the morning I became legal. It was my first attempt at rebelling, but my parents brushed it off, taking away all the fun. I drop my hair and turn back toward him. “And the fourth one?” he asks. I feel my cheeks flush, and I shrug. “Not for public viewing,” I say, taking a slow sip of my wine. His eyes flicker with something—a combination of intrigue and impatience, maybe. Then he leans forward, clasping his hands on the table. “So you’re saying I should take you somewhere private?” he whispers, and my wine breath catches in my throat. I’m all flustered, but I need to keep my shit together. I need to figure out where his head is. I snap myself back to reality, trying desperately to hold on to that fake confidence I had earlier. I lean forward. “Do you take all of the reporters that interview you somewhere private?” I ask. He leans back slightly, raising an eyebrow at me, that panty-dropping half-smile creeping over his lips. “Only the ones who’ve seen me naked,” he says, dabbing at his perfect mouth with a napkin. I swallow. “And how many is that? Twenty? Thirty?” I ask. He shakes his head. “One.”

REVIEW

I've been anticipating this book since reading Cruel Money and I couldn't wait to see what was next for Natalie and Penn.

Like the first book, Cruel Fortune snagged my attention from the start and held me aloft desperate to know what was coming and how things would end.  Natalie's found herself with a dream fulfilled, but it isn't everything she thought it would be.  She finds herself back in New York, back with the elite where she knows she doesn't fit in and yet she realizes it's exactly where she needs to be.

What I loved most about this book, is that I was never quite sure what would come next, I could see so many things happening as I read, but I'd say about half of it I didn't expect.  The characters are questionable at best, ultimately finding some that are good and fair, and others that well lets just say I wouldn't be upset if they got into some sort of accident - but the great part about all of these characters is the elements they bring to the overall story - drama, angst, pain and so much more.

Cruel Fortune will blow you away as it unfolds and delivers a delicious mix of feelings with every turn of the page.

EXCERPT: Gray knew her. He just did. And that made it easier to believe the bomb he’d detonated at her feet. Finally, after blocking out his confession for the past hour, she let it come flooding in. I was in love with my best friend’s girlfriend. Shock waves rolled through her, slamming into every cell in her body. In love with me? Her brain sorted through snapshots from their time together, trying to catch a glimpse of his expressions. But what could she make of them? She could mold a memory into anything she wanted. Gray didn’t lie. He didn’t have to—he had enough confidence and self-possession to own everything he said and did. Which meant…he’d loved her. That’s why he hung around me. All her life she’d felt less than Gray Bowie. He was handsome and powerful, confident and competent. In high school, he’d walk down the hallways, and people would look up from their conversations, pause in reaching into their lockers, just to watch his easy gait, his infectious smile. He radiated authority. He was that unicorn who seemed to fit perfectly in his own skin, while the rest of them were gangly and awkward and unsure. Gray’s bombshell opened up a whole new perspective. It made her see just how deeply she’d let the bullies shape her perceptions about herself. Tonight, Gray had removed that lens. Not that anything could’ve happened between them. Robert would never have let go of her. She’d had to move to New York with no forwarding address in order to free herself. She kept skimming the edge of the bomb site. It was too bright, too scary to look in. He’d loved her? He’d loved her. Gray Bowie had loved her. Now, it almost seemed ridiculous to think of all that time he’d spent with her as anything else. No one spent that much time with a pity project. You invited her to party here and there, you heard of an opportunity and tossed it her way. But you didn’t spend every free moment with your project. He’d dropped the bomb, and she’d slammed the door in his face. She’d let him tell her a truth so big and horrible—he’d been in love with his best friend’s girlfriend—and then walked away. Was he still on the couch, watching mindless TV? She needed to find the guts to go out there and respond. Because what kind of person just closed her eyes and went to sleep with a confession like that hanging in the air? Not having a clue what to say to him, she threw back the covers. She hadn’t been in love with him. That had been so far out of the realm of possibility, she hadn’t even contemplated it. But she’d liked him better than anybody. Tell him that. She flung open the door, ready to talk to him…only to find the suite dark, the couch empty. Why did she feel like she’d missed an opportunity? Should she knock on his door? Wake him up? Of course. He deserved a response, even if it had taken her an hour to find the courage. She pressed her ear to his bedroom door but didn’t hear a sound. Lightly, she knocked. “Gray? You up?” “Yeah. Yep.” His voice sounded gravelly. When she opened the door, she saw a flash of white, as he flipped the covers back and swung his legs off the bed. He snatched his boxers off the floor, jamming his legs into them and yanking them up. Scrubbing his face, he stalked towards her. “You all right? What’s going on?” “I believe you.” “Sorry?” He looked so adorable, this big mountain of a man, wearing nothing but bright red boxers with a green grinch printed all over them. His broad, hairy chest, so toned, so fit, those bulging biceps, and rock-hard thighs—my God. This man had loved her. “I believe you.” This time she smiled because those were the three most powerful words she’d ever said. “Still not getting it.” “I’ve been working through it subconsciously. I started with total dismissal. No way did Gray Bowie have feelings for me. Then I moved to, okay, yeah, you don’t spend all that time with a pity project. You put on latex gloves and serve her a nice dinner once a year. You don’t lie on her bed, feet against the wall, and talk about her dreams of being a fashion designer.” He watched her, like the glitter was settling and the image inside the snow globe was becoming delightfully clear. “But then, the truth started to sink in. You had a busy life. Not just your competitions, but your brothers, your dad, and uncle. And then—bam—it rose right up out of my subconscious and smacked me across the face.” She came closer to him. “Gray, you chose me over time with your brothers. Well, over a lot of things. And I didn’t see it because of them. Of what bullies like Cady and Melissa trained me to believe. That I was trash. I thought flipping them the bird made me rise above it. I thought my little revenge plots made me invincible. But I didn’t see how my impressions about myself and the world came from them. Gray, the idea that you loved me? It just didn’t compute. A guy like you?” His eyes softened, and he cracked a shy grin. Oh, Gray Bowie all vulnerable like that? That was hotter than anything she’d ever seen. “I don’t know how it would’ve changed my life if I’d seen the truth,” she said. “But I can tell you it changes me now.” He didn’t say anything, and awareness broke over her like a cracked egg. Don’t forget that he walked away, stayed away for seven years. He’d had no intention of ever seeing you again. Oh, God. He was talking about a childhood crush, and she was standing here gushing at him. “I mean, I know you don’t love me anymore. Of course. Obviously. I’m just saying that you’ve given me a whole new perspective on my childhood, and it’s pretty damn amazing. We’re good, though. We can work together without you thinking that I’m, like…that I expect…you know, that I think you’re still in love with me.” She laughed, but it sounded as phony as it felt. “Anyhow. I just wanted to say I believe you. That’s a big moment for me, not you, so I obviously shouldn’t have woken you up to tell you. I could’ve kept that one to myself. So, anyhow. I’m a weirdo. Goodnight.” She gave him a smile she was pretty sure could only be found in a Fun House hall of mirrors and turned to go. But his years of training served him well, because his arm shot out, wrapped around her waist, and jerked her against his hot, hard chest. “Never keep anything to yourself.” He leaned in until she could smell the toothpaste on his breath and the clean-linen scent on his skin. “I love every damn thing that comes out of your mouth.” And then he pressed those beautiful lips to hers, and her heart exploded. Desire, sharp and fierce, burst in her core, the current so strong it flooded every fiber and tissue in her body. Immediately, she lost herself in the feel of his smooth, warm skin and the command of his tongue as it took possession of hers. Gray’s kiss started with supreme confidence, making it feel like he was in charge, that she was along for the ride—a thrilling but controlled ride. One you knew couldn’t go off the rails. And then it faltered. He let out a sign that sounded utterly desperate. The power of his touch gave way to a tremble in his arms, and his body heated up to blistering. His control snapped, and he turned reckless, wild. She’d never been kissed like this—like he needed to gobble her up but couldn’t get all of her in at once. Like he needed to consume her, get his fill before she was snatched away. Everything about Gray—his scent, the way his strong hands roamed her back as though he couldn’t believe he got to touch her—the passion in his embrace—lit her up, flipped on all the lights—and she wanted it. She wanted this torrent of yearning and desire and need. Until those strong hands slid down and cupped her ass and gave her a lusty squeeze. The press of his arousal against her stomach sent up warning flares—sex—and, God, sex with Gray Bowie? Panic had her hands pushing him away. “I…” Her fingertips brushed across her sensitive lips. Those blue eyes worked hard to read her, his chest pumping, arms still out so that if she took one step forward her bottom would fit snugly back in his hands. And it struck her—like really hit her hard—how much she wanted that. “I’m sorry. I…goodnight.”

EXCERPT: Macie had no idea what Colt was doing with her brother at two-thirty in the morning, but she couldn’t deny that she was extremely grateful. She didn’t even flinch when Colt called her brother Truck. He’d apparently been given the nickname when he’d joined the Army. She was trying to remember to call him that, but because he’d been Ford to her as long as she could remember, it was tough. And as much as she knew her brother would’ve helped her, hearing Colt’s steady voice kept her grounded. She remembered after Truck’s wedding, when she’d been having an anxiety attack, he’d held her against him and talked to her in his low, rumbly voice. How much it had helped. He’d calmed her and helped pull her out of the dark place her mind had gone. The same was happening tonight. She’d been panicking and running headlong through the parking lot, with no idea what to do or where to go, when he’d forced her to pay attention to her surroundings. He gave her something to concentrate on, and it felt good to let him take over and tell her what to do. She had no idea why he hadn’t called her after her brother’s wedding. He’d asked her out and she’d badly wanted to spend more time with him, but he hadn’t called. Hadn’t gotten in touch with her. His rejection had hurt, but she really wasn’t surprised. She was a pain in the ass and no one as amazing as Colt would want to be with her. At the moment, however, she had more pressing issues to think about. Looking back toward the building, Macie didn’t see any sign of the men who’d broken into her apartment, but she could hear their footsteps. Macie ducked behind a car and dropped to her knees. She winced but ignored the pain and crawled between a row of cars, making sure to stay out of sight. Then she lay down on her belly and crawled under one of the cars in the lot. She was wearing a tight tank top and her sleep shorts, because she hated to feel constricted by clothing when she slept. “Macie?” Colt asked. She opened her mouth to respond when she heard one of the men saying to his friend, “She has to be this way. We’ve checked all the other cars.” It felt like she was having a heart attack. Her chest was tight and she couldn’t get enough air into her lungs. But she couldn’t gasp for oxygen because they’d hear her. Macie mentally berated herself for calling her brother and not the police. If she’d called 9-1-1, they’d probably be here by now.

REVIEW

Lord Have Mercy is book two in the Southern Gentlemen series and brings us the story of Flint Stone, the school resource officer and Camryn, the one co-worker it seems can't stand him.  We met these two in the first book of the series and I was really intrigued to know what would happen between them.

I loved the banter and interactions between Camryn and Flint from page on, there's a definite note of dislike there, but it's not as simple as that and as these two spend more time together, it's clear to see that their looming attraction is much stronger than their animosity.  There's just the right amount of outside drama as well, to draw you in to that aspect but not detract from the romantic elements.

This story has a touch of enemies to lovers feel to it, but there's so much more as Camryn and Flint help each other in other ways too.  I love how all of the little elements just add a unique depth to their bond and made me believe in it all the more.

As with all of her books, Lani Lynn Vale, delivers quite the feel of family and friendship with deep connections and I love how the stories all intersect.
