Synopsis:

Six wasn’t the hero I needed.

But he was the man I wanted.

And it was my selfish craving, the desire to own him, that would be our undoing.

No one tells you that love is a disease. An infection that tears your heart apart, leaving you half the person you were before. A malady that leaves open wounds. An invisible disorder tracing scars in the places you couldn’t see if you weren’t looking for them.

I was sick, but love didn’t heal me.

Instead, it festered in my marrow, and drove me to unforgivable mistakes.

Six was my first mistake, but he wouldn't be the last.

REVIEW

Here's the thing about this book, it has so many many layers, so many things all tangled up within it's pages that I couldn't possibly sum it all up in a review for you, nor would I try. Instead, what I will do, in an attempt to remain spoiler free, yet entice you to entire the wild ride that is the Made Love Duet, is to explain all the reasons why you should read it.

Whether you've read Whitney Barbetti before or haven't, there is one thing you should know - her writing will force you to examine emotions, characters, plots in many ways. It will suck you in and leave you grasping on the bits and pieces you unravel as each page turns to the next.

Six Feet Under is book one in a duet, that means of course that you are NOT going to get a full conclusion at the end of this book. You are going to be left with questions, you are going to be left aghast in some ways and anxious in others. Prepare yourself. The good news is the torture won't be long as Pieces of Eight it quick to follow.

To say Mira is a complex person is putting it mildly - but there are reasons - there is a purpose to all of the complexities that make up who she is - that define her. There might be moments you down right loathe her, there will be moments you just want to give her a hug, and then there are tons of moments where you feel as lost as she does and don't know what to hope for next. BUT if you really dig deep, if you learn her, if you feel her pain, if you get even a small inkling of the whys and the hows - you'll come away understanding Mira and the way she is, the decisions she's made and the actions she's taken.

Six is quite a character himself, I've craved knowing his and Mira's story for a long time, after catching glimpses of both characters in other books. One of the things about Six that has always struck me is his determination, his fierce loyalty, and his strength. All of these things drew me to him, all of these qualities have their place in the story of these two.

Six Feet Under gives us the beginning of these two, that first immediate connection, and draw us out from there, through many years, and many struggles, and hurts and pains, but also some good moments to. This book showcases Mira's demons and how they follow her, how she fights them, how she embraces them and every stage in between. This book spans a ten year period, and you'd think that a time span that long would be drawn out and slow moving, but in truth, each and every moment will engage you in some manner. You'll find yourself craving more even as you dread what might happen next. You will be lost in the tirade of emotions, swept up in the depths of Mira's sickness all while finding little bits of hope to cling to. Six and Mira's path is not easy, not free of troubles nor pain, but it is raw and real and rightfully theirs.

Barbetti tackles an extreme topic with grace and realism, she shines a light on the mental struggles of a character who can be selfish, mean, misunderstood, but one who deserves love despite all of that.
