Colt Kendrick knows one thing about a small town, you can’t avoid anyone for long-especially a girl he crossed the line with and is best friends with his brother’s fiancĂ©. Luna could have been the one if he hadn’t done her wrong. Colt’s intentions are nothing but honorable, but his thoughts about Luna sure aren’t. How could he ever let a sweet girl like her go? He won’t make that mistake twice.

Luna Hill thought she lost her shot with the sexy cowboy, but sometimes lightning does strike twice. While she wants to see what one scorching kiss leads to, she’s got a job offer out of state. Will she stay stuck in her less than life, or reach for her dream? An unexpected and amazing opportunity will keep her in town and give her what her heart desires most, a chance to be with Colt, but it comes with a price that may cost Colt his life.

Colt will do anything to keep Luna safe, including put his life on the line, because nothing is more important than the woman who showed Colt he has a heart-and it belongs to her.

“You drive me crazy.”

She didn’t even hide her smile. “Why?”

“Because all I want to do is kiss you.”

“More things we agree on.” She placed her hand on the back of his neck, went up on tiptoe, and brushed her lips over his. Like a match swiped across the rough edge of the box, a fire lit inside of them. Colt’s arms banded around her. One big hand held her lower back. He planted the other right on her ass, his long fingers lay over the curve, inches from the tingling heat building between her legs. He pulled her closer and took the kiss deeper. His tongue glided along hers. She moaned. He growled, titled his head for a better angle, and kissed her socks off.

Luna lost herself in Colt’s arms. The first kiss they shared rocked her world off center and left her wondering if what she felt that night in the parking lot was real or just her imagination. Not only was the passion and need real, something opened inside her and everything within her settled.

God, the man could kiss.

I've read a few other books by Jennifer Ryan and one thing I always enjoy about them is how real she writes her characters. Their struggles, back stories, and personalities that bleed through the words written, do nothing but pull you further into the story and make you care.

Her Renegade Rancher was no different.  I was hooked from page one, curious where the story would lead me. Right away we know there's history between Colt and Luna, something that is keeping them apart, though they both still long to be with the other.

Colt feels guilt for the past, because he believes he did wrong, and not only that, he hurt Luna in the process, while Luna feels her own type of guilt over what happened, what she sees as her own wrongdoing. I loved the way they were both so twisted up over what happened between them that they didn't want to talk about it, they didn't want to clear the air because they beleived the other wouldn't forgive them.

Her Renegade Rancher is the Fifth book in the Montana Men series but the first that I have read, so I can't speak to previous books, but I loved the combination of Strong and slightly rough but loyal Cowboy with a woman with strengths of her own but mostly who just seems kind and gentle and loving.

The connection between these two was natural and there was no question they would eventually find their way to each other and work it out, but they had to get through a few things first.  I loved the how they jumped to defend the other, to their friends, to each other but couldn't defend their own actions to themselves, it showed who they were, how hard it can be when you feel you've done wrong to forgive yourself.

Another thing that was very enjoyable about the book was the bonds between other characters, friends and family, town members, each who brought something to the story and shed light on the community bonds, the feelings between them all.  The pull to be a member of that community, to be part of the diner crowd, or connected in other ways to the characters met within the pages shows how great the writing of this book is. I feel the need to go back and read previous books in the series to get to know these characters more.

This book grabbed me from the start, took me through many emotions, had me rooting for Luna and Colt, and left me feeling happy and looking forward to what would come next.  It's full of sweet, tender moments, a few laughs, misunderstandings, and more. There's an equal balance between Luna and Colt's romance and the rest of the story, which is all delivered in a easy manner that moves at a comfortable pace.
