I loved a boy.
Gavin Lodge.
He was sweet, gentle, kind and he made me feel alive.
Letting him go was the hardest thing I ever had to do in my life.
A hundred times I wished I had done things differently.
A thousand times I wished I had gone with him.
A million times I wished he had chosen me.
I didn’t. Neither did he.
Now he’s back.
No longer a boy, but a man.
I can’t love him.
It almost destroyed me once and I won’t let that happen again.
That should be the end of it.
And maybe it would have been…
If someone wasn’t trying to kill me…
“Luna, I didn’t know. I swear to you, I. Did. Not. Know.
“How is that even possible, Gavin? Your signature was on those papers. My father told me what you said—”
“Whatever your father told you was a lie. I had no idea, Luna. You have to believe me, if I did, I would have been back here by your side in a heartbeat.”
“I don’t have to believe you. We’re not back in high school, Gavin. I’m not longer the young, naïve girl blinded by her first crush—”
“You loved me Luna. There was no fucking crush. At least admit to that. We loved each other.”
“We were young and stupid.”
“And we loved each other,” he says and for some reason it feels like those words are a physical hit, my body even jolts in reaction.
REVIEW
When You Were Mine isn't your usual second chance romance story but a second chance story with a few extra twists.
Gavin and Luna's story takes you on quite the journey, lots of history there, lots of pain and emotions, and the past
isn't even all of it. I really enjoyed how the author dug us right in with the hurt between these two.
Of course there's deep emotion there, they shared so much and had no real closure.
I really enjoyed getting to know these characters and understanding the decisions they made and the role they played
in their past. Gavin was a good guy, a good guy who maybe didn't always think things out, but had the best of intentions and Luna
is a woman who's been through a lot and made some tough choices herself.
The addition of the danger lurking, the mystery of it all just really added a different element to the connection these two had and
how that connection has changed over the years. I found myself lost in this story, trying to put together all the pieces myself and hoping
for a happy ending. This book made my heart race at points, my mind work overtime trying to determine what would come next.
