It should have been simple.
Go to the ball, meet the prince, and secure his patronage for my favorite charity.
But beneath the mask, the brooding beast of a man was not at all who I expected.
He was dark and intense and eerily quiet.
When I left, I could still feel the ghost of his touch branded into my skin.
He haunted my dreams, but I never expected to see him again.
Then he came for me.
And he took me.
And I learned that his darkness was a void I never could have conceived.
He’s the crown prince of Norway.
And, now, I’m his captive.
REVIEW
Stealing Cinderella is the latest in the Sinister Fairytale collection, this time with a dark dark retelling of Cinderella.
Zavarelli did an amazing job with this story, sucking me in from the first page and delivering a deliciously dark tale that is nothing of the Cinderella we expect but rather captivatingly better.
Our story has the usual characteristics of this fairytale - the young Ella, orphaned and left in the not-so-capable and friendly hands of her step-mother. Forced to serve her step family and endure their hatred and blame. Our Ella has one respite, the animals she works with, but that's in danger of being taken away. Ella replaces someone else at a masquerade ball held by the Prince she's hoping can save her animals shelter and from there, well things take a turn for the sinister.
I really enjoyed the elements that went into play luring us into this dark world of Thor and where it led us. Of course there was a lot to work through for our characters, both of them have been through a lot and have shall we say more than a few issues. I really enjoyed the interactions between these two and watching as their love grew.
If you are a fan of dark and edgy tales with a twist, this book will definitely be up your alley.
