Under Fire was a quick but satisfying read. Blaise is the Captain of his Fire squad and he never expects a routine fire rescue to change his life, but when it hand delivers Brianna to him, he's all in.
The connection between these two is instantaneous and their chemistry is about as hot as the fire that takes out Brianna's home. With no where to go, and nothing left, Brianna feels alone - but Chief Blaise isn't about to let her go wandering about trying to get her bearings, he's taking her home with him.
The instant feelings usually comes off horribly wrong, but in this short story really worked for this couple. Sure they didn't know each other until that moment but in their first meeting the sparks were flying so it was only inevitable.
I liked that Blaise wasn't the one trying to rush things between them, that he understood Brianna had been through a trauma and needed to work through what losing her home and belongings meant. He was alpha male-ish without being a jerk, and he was settled on making sure she would be okay.
Brianna's cat added a bit of humor to the story and was a great addition.
Aria Cole is a thirty-something housewife who once felt bad for reading dirty books late at night, until she decided to write her own. Possessive alpha men and the sassy heroines who love them are common, along with a healthy dose of irresistible insta-love and happily ever afters so sweet your teeth may ache.
