SYNOPSIS:
As the son of an Irish mobster, Connor O’Neil spent his boyhood hiding from the horrors of his own home. His one reprieve was a girl he knew only as Evelyn, but even she was taken away. As a man, Connor is determined to stay away from his father’s business. With Sean, participation is not a request, but a demand. The truth is, Connor might be more like the evil he’s trying to hide away from than he would like to admit.
And he’s already spent years trying to cover the scars left over from the pain.
A chance encounter puts the lost girl from his past back on his path, and he no longer has a choice but to face the darkness he’s been ignoring for years.
Evelyn. Sasha. Slave.
She doesn’t really know who she is anymore.
Or maybe she does, and she doesn’t want to tell.
She isn’t the same as she once was—now a thing to be kept and maintained, shuffled from owner to owner until it was her time to go. She only became Connor’s because he took her when he knew she wasn’t his to take.
Except she isn’t Connor’s at all …
And he can’t keep her hidden forever.
~Inflict is a Standalone Romance with graphic depictions of violence, sexual scenes, dark elements and a HEA. It is not recommended for those under the age of 18.
REVIEW
Inflict delivers a powerful story of Mafia son, Connor and journies us from his horrific childhood to his adulthood where he is sucked further into his father's world for a girl. Not just any girl though, the one who gave him reprieve as a child, the one who disappeared on him.
To say Connor has daddy issus would be putting it lightly, and I don't mean daddy abandoned me and I lacked a male influence type of issues. Some parts of his story are hard to read, and they should be - but they also clearly show us the man he is and why and how he became that man. Connor has seen and heard a lot in his years, sometimes without understanding exactly what he had seen or heard, but ultimately knowing his father was NOT a good man and the things he said and did were not right or normal. Connor had a hard time understanding normalcy when he saw it, but deep inside he had a deep knowledge that he wanted some of that in his life.
Evelyn has been through a lot in the years since she disappeared from Connor's life: abused, used, traded, never in control of her own life. Connor wants nothing more than to protect her - but he doesn't really have that choice. Once the sweet girl who just wanted a companion in Connor, she's changed into a completely different woman.
Inflict is a darker story, we get glimpses of the seedier underbelly of power and corruption within the mafia, we see the abuse, mental and physical, the harrowing details of the reality for Connor growing up with a man who seemingly has no limits and no care for anyone but himself.
Connor and Evelyn's story isn't easy, and it isn't soft, but it fits for them and the lives they have lead, their past led them to this present. To say they are soul mates isn't enough to describe the utter perfection they find in each other - but there are those who don't want to see either of these two characters happy.
Inflict was full of twists and turns and secrets and lies, but it was also the story of two people finding a connection in the midst of it all. The story is full of emotions - those it makes you feel, and those you can feel emanating from the characters within the pages. It's dark and disturbing, but also has notes of sweetness and a real love. And through it all, the story manages to bring the Sexy and make it work with everything else going on. This story is of two people, damaged and broken by life and the hits inflicted on them throughout their years. But more than that, its about two people finding something within each other, a Love that pulls them together and holds all their broken pieces together.
