Book One in the Operation Mayhem series by Lindsay Cross takes us on quite a ride with a trip to a dangerous place and plans that go more than awry. While trying to find their way out of the mess and still save the mission, two people find more than they expected with each other, but it's not so easy to trust.

Marley never expected a simple transport job could lead to so much more. When she left her daughter with her parents to run the job, she didn't think it could be the last time she saw her family - but the moment all of that changes, Marley has decisions to make; the most important being who she can trust to help her.

Mack's got one desire of this mission; capturing and defeating Mankel - the traitor who cost him the lives of his men and created a host of other problems. Being a widower who lost not only his wife, but is estranged from his son, Mack feels his family is those he works with and he would do anything to seek vengeance for them. He doesn't expect to find his heart softening towards the pilot of this mission, but when their plans blow up - he can't fight the attraction or sizzling chemistry.

With danger surrounding them and a secret or two, Marley and Mack have more to work through than simply getting out alive. Will they find the trust needed to work together and complete the mission satisfactly? Can they work out their person issues and give in to the relationship they could have? Lindsay Cross has created an interesting cast of characters for this series, though we only get glimpses at some members of the team - it's easy enough to feel their sense of loyalty to each other and see them as a family. The comraderie between them stands out even when they are not in agreement and I look forward to seeing more of it in future books. The balance between the romance and the danger was handled wonderfully and I really felt as if neither was rushed.
