Can a sexy bean counter find the wise guys who are after his new office manager before it's too late?

Since leaving the FBI Grayson Jennings has found peace in his life with his job as a forensic accountant with Deep Six Security and he treasures it. His life remains calm until he is charged with staffing the new east coast office of Deep Six Security and Michaela Girabaldi sweeps into his life like a Texas tornado, to suck him into her problems.
The smart-mouthed Jersey girl, who is hired as the office manager, brings with her baggage packed with enough trouble to last a lifetime. Her dirtiest laundry is the 1.2 million dollars she insists she didn't steal from the mob.

Gray had been through that kind of rodeo with a woman before and had the bruises to prove it. He was not going to blindly trust a woman ever again, especially one who had a target on her back, but he'd have to be blind not to notice how hot the mafia princess was.
He is wrangled into helping her find the missing loot, which Mickie insists only her cousin knows where it went.  Gray thinks the sexy-as-sin woman is probably guilty as hell, but knows he has to follow the money to find her cousin and find out.

The question was could he find that woman before the mob finds Mickie? Or will Michaela distract him with her Nonna's Magic Massage Oil and orgasm-worthy fritattas, at the beach house where they're hiding out, and get them both killed?

REVIEW

Gray Matter sucked me into the action from the beginning pages with Mickie stumbling upon something unexpected in her place of business.  Further discovering the danger she's found herself a part of, Mickie flees in hopes of figuring out how to untangle herself from the tricky spot she's in.

I really liked Mickie from the start, she's feisty but also smart and she struck me a ssomeone who wants to believe the best in people.  I loved how she took control of the situation as best she could and tried to keep herself steady with a job while figuring out everything else.

Gray took me a while to get a read on. He seemed like a good guy, but I could also tell he'd been through a lot and it weighed on him and how he carried on.  I really liked that he wasn't afraid to get involved in the situation even if he didn't believe Mickie's version.

McGraw kept my attention with the action going on, the questions I was filled with, and the push/pull between Gray and Mickie.  There was never a dull moment within this story, which definitely made things progress at a steady pace that engrossed me and had me hoping for a resolution that was more than just catching the bad guys, so to speak.

I haven't read all of the books in this series, but Gray Matter, definitely worked as a stand alone for me.
