Emma was hard for me to connect to at first, though I was curious about how she would grow and change within the pages. She seemed frightened and holding a fake apperance of "everything's fine" but deep down there was so much more to her character. She went through a lot and yes she took it and even made excuses in some ways, which was hard to grasp because she seemed so smart, but that's the thing that's hard to understand - sometimes when you are buried under so much - it's hard to see your way out even if you know you need to find a way.
Alex grabbed my attention from the start, he seemed strong, savvy in his business, and a really good guy at heart. He's charming and I really fell for him in the first gew pages.
This book grabbed my attention and kept me on the edge of my seat just waiting for things to blow up, looking for the boogie man to pop out of the corner, trying to guage what trauma was coming next for Emma. And then I was waiting for what would happen as Alex helped Emma.
This story took me from a suspenseful beginning to a sweeter ending and while Alex and Emma seemed to fit together, at some points I felt like there was something missing to merge the two parts of the story, I think perhaps if there had been just a few more pages the transition would have been pulled off more flawlessly.
Overall, I enjoyed their relationship though and I would leave this book with a firm 3.5 stars.

Delaney Foster is a Louisiana native, not far from New Orleans, where eating, drinking, and dancing are pretty much a requirement for citizenship.
