Ain't Doin' It is the latest in the Simple Man Series and let me just say it is far from a simple story. We know Coke from previous books and we also know his ex wife and the problems she - well is. I was excited to see Coke get his story and find a woman who deserved him after the mess he'd been put through.

I loved Cora, she's feisty and strong, she knows what she wants and goes for it. She's close to her family - but also knows when she needs her distance from them. She was raised knowing how to take care of herself, but also knowing she was different than everyone else - she's got her own special quirks we'll say. Cora knows she's not like other people and it affects her in some ways and in others she doesn't think about it at all - I really liked how she was plain with her truths when she decided to give them.

Coke's been through a lot, marriage to a woman who wasn't easy in the slightest, problems with her and his daughter, he's not looking for anything at the moment other than raising his daughter and staying as far away from his ex as possible - that is until his new neighbor stumbles into his yard and he finds himself feeling things he hasn't. But there's an age difference and he feels he needs to stay away - at first.

Coke and Cora's story has many twists and turns, ups and downs, and of course that little edge of danger and suspense Vale is so good at weaving in. With pop-ins from previous characters - both those we like and those we don't so much care for, Ain't Doin' It brings us right back into the fold of Hostel and it's surrounding areas and into the special fold of Free again as well.
