Review Blast: Keep it Classy by Lani Lynn Vale

Ghosts are real. Well, technically speaking, maybe not. But the ones that haunt a man’s soul? Those are very real. So real, in fact, that there are times when Castiel would rather silence them forever in the worst way possible than to go on living with them haunting his every step. All it took was one single second in time for his attention to drift, and everything changed. Life as he once knew it, is over. Now he’s struggling to make sense of the pieces that are left, and he’s fairly sure at least half of them are missing. He’s living for three things now. His club—the Bear Bottom Guardians. His work as a police officer for Bear Bottom Police Department. And the occasional glimpse of a girl that makes his spirit feel free. Despite the ghosts that haunt him, he’s not willing to present them with another target. Which is why he has to stay away from her. He can’t touch her. He can’t talk to her. He can’t get anywhere near her. Not and live with himself afterward. The only problem is, Turner doesn’t care what Castiel wants. She also has a solution for his ghosts. You may call her Ms. Ghostbuster.

Review

Turner and Castiel's story was beautifully haunting in ways, because there are so many emotions between them, and hidden pain, and yet there's also no denying the chemistry and the bonds forming.  These two started out with little more than animosity between them - but somewhere along the way it changed and something more developed.

I loved Turner from teh moment we met her - because she's feisty and sassy but also wholly who she is, she doesn't try to be someone else. She knows struggle, she's not always had things the easiest in life but she doesn't let it define her. She's an amazing friend, a nurturer in ways, someone who's dealt with pain in the past and someone who's come out on top.

Castiel has also dealt with his struggles, but he's pushed things aside because of his past, the ghosts that haunt him.  I really enjoyed getting a deeper look at what makes this man within the pages of this story, because he's been on the periphery for so long that I was definitely curious.

Castiel and Turner clash and their banter is enjoyable but when they give in to the underlying attraction things get even better.  Their story isn't easy or super pretty in places, but it's real and it's raw and it just plain works for them.  As always Vale delivers a beautiful romance mixed in with a whole lot more and with her own special brand of twists.
