Synopsis:

Have yourself a steamy little Christmas…

After three years in prison, freight train engineer Lacey Gallagher doesn’t expect this Christmas to be very merry and bright. At least chopping down trees for her brother’s Christmas tree farm will help her save money to get her life back on track. All her plans derail, though, when her new job puts her in territory patrolled by the man who haunts her dreams—the forest ranger who sent her to prison.

Austin Wilder isn’t thrilled about Lacey working in his forest—but he soon realizes he needs her help. His family is depending on him to restore an old steam train for a spectacular Christmas event, and train expert Lacey is his only hope of finishing in time.

Working together challenges every assumption Lacey and Austin have about each other, and they discover a desire hot enough to melt even the deepest Montana snow. But will the season of second chances be enough to mend the most hardened broken heart?

My Review:

Lacey has just returned home after being let out of prison. She has no clue what she's going to do with her life, and is only there to help her brother out for a while.  She knows the mistakes from her past and has a personal promise to never fall for the wrong man again, but sometimes we aren't in control.

Austin is torn, stuck in the position as the cop who sent Lacey away believing in her guilt strongly, and the man who sees the person Lacey is now that she's out. He wants nothing to do with her and doesn't want her out working in his woods, but then he needs a favor and only she can assist.

I loved Lacey, she was struggling with her past mistakes, amazed at her naivety and how she let herself end up where she did.  As her lawyer helps assist her in trying to move on, Lacey focues on the future as she helps out with her brother intent on solititude.  Lacey is very down on herself, feeling that she was epically stupid to have let things turn out this way, and she feels as if she's burdened her family and wants to prove herself.

When Austin arrives to seek her help with an old train he and his family need running, Lacey isn't sure how to take it, but the thrill of working on something that holds a huge piece of herself forces her to accept.  But as they work together on the train, they can't help but feel pulled toward each other.

Three Nights before Christmas will suck you in, pulling you into the holiday spirit and hoping for a miracle.  Watching as indifference grows to love, and beliefs change and trust rebuilds is a beautiful thing.  Lacey and Austin both struggle with their feelings for each other based on their ideas of the other, but find they can't shut them off either.

I really loved how their feelings grew and both changed as they did.  The animosity and mistrust sort of died away and slowly a new opinon of each other grew and they had a solid foundation to build on if they could accept it.

This book was full of sweet and steamy moments and accepting yoru past mistakes for what they are and finding it in you to stand up for yourself and for what you deserve.
