Blurb

The New York Times bestselling hockey series featuring the Carolina Cold Fury continues as the team’s most notorious party animal gets blindsided by the one that got away.

Off the ice, elite defenseman Hawke Therrien enjoys his fair share of booze and good times. And why shouldn’t he? He’s worked his way up from the minor leagues and made himself a star. The only thing Hawke misses from that life is the pierced, tattooed free spirit who broke his heart without so much as an explanation. She’s almost unrecognizable when she walks back into his life seven years later—except for the look in her eyes that feels like a punch to the gut.

Vale Campbell isn’t the same girl she was at twenty. As crazy as she was about Hawke, her reckless behavior and out-of-control drinking were starting to scare her. She had to clean up her act, and that would never happen with Hawke around. Cutting him loose was the hardest thing Vale ever had to do—until now. Because she’s still crazy about Hawke. And if he could ever learn to forgive her, they just might have a future together.

REVIEW

Hawke is the latest in Sawyer Bennett's Cold Fury series and it gives us another story from one of the new players.

Hawke is second chance romance tale.  Hawke and Vale had a serious years long relationship 7 years ago, but it ended badly.  Vale kept secrets and cut ties leaving Hawke to wonder what had happened and years to remain angry about it.  But Vale's secrets didn't only affect Hawke, they also affected her.

Seeing each other again so much later, is difficult, both are struggling with their remaining feelings, both teh good and the bad from their lost relationship, and both have questions.  As they try to work thorugh it all, it becomes clear there is still something there between them.

I have to admit that Vale really made me mad a few times throughout the story, she let her own pain and her own guilt keep her from who and what she wanted and she made excuses about it.  BUT when she finally stepped up and admitted the truth to Hawke, she also admitted to herself that she had not always made the best or right decisions.

Hawke and Vale's story isn't the typical sports romance, they have a lot of past aches and mistakes to move past and forgive. But this story proves that if you lay it all on the line, if you give up every part of you, even the hidden scary parts, it can make even the hardest obstacle disappear and even the toughest heart can be won.
