Dawn of Surrender was a quick but very enjoyable read. It included all the elements I've come to expect from a Mackenzie Family story, pulling me in from the first page.
Cole and Elizabeth have been married but both have their questions about the marriage - neither having let their emotions out with each other leaving them on somewhat shakey ground. All of that comes to a head when they find themselves relying on each other to get through the danger that's coming their way in the form of Cole's brother and his gang.
I loved how these two worked together so well - making plans and trusting each other full stop. Even when they were worried about the others true feelings - they pushed it aside to focus on what needed to be done. Elizabeth was a headstrong woman who didn't believe in traditional female roles - why shouldn't she be in charge of the ranch she'd grown up on and loved? Cole was a great man, who not only believed in his wife - but wanted her to be able to do as she pleased to ensure her happiness.
There was just the right amount of suspense and danger along with swoony moments and the realizations that they mean more to each other than they thought. The chemistry is strong and their connection palpable.
