Review
Cruz is book one in Diablo's Throne series and what a start it delivers. From the first page, I was hooked, curious to know all the little details and working through the little bits and pieces to put together the whole picture.
I'll start with Layla, she roped me in from the first, making me curious to know her past, why she was who she was, and what had driven her away from the family she clearly loves with her whole heart. She's feisty and fun, a little bruised and damaged - but still fighting to live in some ways. I really loved the relationship she has with not only her father, but also his fighters, the bonds of a family built by other means than blood.
Cruz also tugged at me from the get go, leaving me full of questions, but also wanting to give him a hug and someone to vent to. He's a fighter, and I don't just mean that in the MMA sense, but he's got his struggles as well.
This story took me on a whirlwind of secrets and pain and an unexpected connection between two people who didn't expect to find it. There's a bit of drama, a host of emotions, and a touch of mystery thrown in just to keep you off your game a little bit, but through it all stands a story that will leave you wanting more.
