Blurb:
One accident - a freaking car crash. That’s all it took to send my life into a tailspin. Little did I know that out of the wreckage, everything would fall into place. I would get everything I had ever worked for.
Little did I know that I would find the woman who would cross check my life, flipping everything upside down.
Even though she's melting the ice that surrounds my heart, I'm still waiting for the other shoe to drop. Will I ever be able to find my footing or am I destined to stay pinned against the boards?
Note: Cross Checked is the second book in the Shots On Goal Series. It can be read as a standalone, has a happily ever after, and does not have a cliffhanger. There are character crossovers from Hat Trick (book one in the series) which is also a standalone with a HEA and no cliffhanger.

Review

Cross Checked was a great addition to this series, delivering us the story of Karla and Brayden.  Though we got a small peak that something was brewing between these two in Hat Trick, Cross checked brings us their whole story.

You know how they say everyone comes into our lives for a reason, that some moments define out lives more than others, well that's true in this love story.  Karla and Brayden met in a random series of events, but something stood out between enough to remember each other when they bump into one another later and decide to set up another meeting.  The connection between them is palpable from their second meeting onward.

I really enjoyed how Mazzola used the intersecting moments in their lives to bring these two together, how it proved that a true connection will find a way - almost as if fate steps in.  Brayden suffered a lot in his life, and at the time he met Karla for the first time, she was a beacon at that moment, someone who gave him exactly what he needed in that moment, and as such though she wasn't forefront in his mind, he never forgot her or what she'd done for him (and his sister).   It really clicked for Brayden how much she'd done for him at that time when he ran into her again and realized he'd never really thanked her.

Karla hasn't had it easy in relationships either, in fact the brief period of time when she'd met Brayden, as she took care of his sister in the hospital, was not a good time in her personal life. When she meets him again, and he asks for a chance to take her out, she's all in.

Their relationship moved at a steady pace for the most part, with a few moments feeling a little rushed, but their connection was there, as was the chemistry.  The story was a quick read, but it flowed well and their connection was strong. I would have liked to see a little more time to the story, to watch things develop more, but overall I enjoyed their story.  Karla and Brayden found something in each other but there were things that they needed to work through to make a real go of a relationship. Can they work it out? Read Cross- checked to find out if the hockey player can fit this unexpected woman into his life on and off the ice.
