Blog Tour & Review: Southern Sweets by Cori Williams

TITLE: Southern Sweets: A Midnight Novel
AUTHOR: Cori Williams
PUBLISHER: Booktrope Publishing

Sugar and spice don’t always play nice—Amelia Emerson learned that the hard way after her heart was snatched straight from her chest. What was done could not be forgotten.
Tanner made his choice, and there was no turning back from the hurt he caused. Amelia is left dealing with the aftermath and trying to juggle the new life she has been handed.
Worn down, she struggles to gain back the confidence she once possessed, and prove to everyone she is able to do things on her own—But when life takes another sharp turn in an unexpected direction, will she be able to let go and start fresh? Or is the pain too unbearable to forget?

Southern sweets takes us on a long journey for two people.  From bad choices to mistakes, heartbreak to swoons, misunderstandings and feelings of unworthiness, these two people find love and screw it all up time and again.  Can they figure it out and put their hearts on the line again? Or are they doomed?

Tanner thought he knew what he was doing, he though he had it all figured out and was doing the right thing, the only choice he could make. But Tanner was wrong, and when he figures it out, a lot has happened and he's not sure he can make up for his past decisions and the hurt they've let manifest over time.

Amelia has been hurt, one time to many and she's almost at the point where she wants to be happy with her life, she's got her business, she's got her daughter, and she has her best friend, what more could a girl ask for.  Well, things would be great if she could add a little bit of love to the mix, but Amelia isn't sure that will ever be in the cards for her.

Southern Sweets is a story about second chances, it's a story about moving on from the past, and finding a way to accept that certain things are not going to change.  Tanner and Amelia both made mistakes in their relationship, they've both done something or other to hurt the other, not maliciously but also not exactly by accident.  They have a lot to work through and they also have to decide if the struggles are even worth it. Maybe some hurts can't be healed, maybe some hearts don't tell the truth, and maybe some people don't belong together even if the love is strong. These are things they have to figure out and fight for or decide to give up.

This isn't your typical love story, and at times I was a bit annoyed at both of the characters, their choices were obviously going to come back and bite them, but they keep doing the same back and forth, over and around until finally they hit that pinnacle moment, Do they give it one last chance or give up on each other forever?
