In my War, I’d found not only peace but LOVE as well. I’d been through a battlefield with my War and LOVE was what brought us to the other side. Our LOVE was beautiful and pure. Undying. My captor thinks he has won this war. That I will LOVE him. What he doesn’t know is this time, I’m the one with a strategy. I’m always thinking several moves ahead of him, my War taught me that. I will outsmart him and find peace again. This is a war I will win. My LOVE will conquer all.

Warning: This is Love, Baby is a dark romance. Strong sexual themes and violence which could trigger emotional distress are found in this story. Terrible, terrible things happen to our poor heroine, so you’ve been properly warned. This story is NOT for everyone.

REVIEW

This is Love, Baby dives us right back into the story, continuing where This is War, Baby left us.

Gabe has found his Baylee and taken her again leaving her to wonder what is coming next and what happened to War.  *spoiler alert* We know War was shot at the end of book one, but we don't yet know his fate, neither does Baylee.   Gabe is more determined than ever to show Baylee their love is real and she belongs with him, even if it means going back to their training.

But Baylee learned a thing or two while she was with War, and she's not going to take anything lying down anymore. Baylee knows she's got the fight of her life on her shoulders, but she also is the only one who knows something else, she's got a bigger reason to fight.

K. Webster twists us deeper to this tangled web, giving us hints and small bits of information leading us on the right track. Not only do we learn more about the whys and the hows, we get a deeper understanding of the whole picture, and what a disturbing picture it is.  Baylee struggles with the knowledge that she doesn't know who to trust or how much she can trust them, she's left in hurt and anger over the loss of War, whom she comes to believe is dead.

I love the twists and turns Webster has added in to this second half of the story, though I got answers I was seeking, I also found more questions, and was surprised when things took yet another turn and I was left to decide, good guy or bad and what is his angle?  The abrupt change one character took, felt like a leap at first, but then as the story moved on, it seemed to flow into the rest of the details, I could see a faint understanding and reasoning, even if it didn't particularly make me happy.

War and Baylee's struggles, hers to remain safe and away from psycho Gabe, and his to not give into his mental problems remain visible throughout this second book but we also see a lot of overcoming these obstacles.  Baylee isn't a weak girl she was when Gabe first took her, she's learned to much, been put through too many traumas, and she's got reasons to fight.

This is Love, Baby was an amazing follow up to This is War, Baby, and with it came another insanely wild ride with surprises around every corner.  Webster built a whole web of lies and secrets and spun them around Baylee and War and it all unfolds around them in these two books.  Baylee has been dealt a lot of blows in these few months the book is based in, but she's conquered the monsters, she's found her anchor, and she helped heal War some.

The ending, though I somewhat saw coming, left me reeling a little bit, because it left the story so open ended and questions bombarded me further.

My life had a plan. Until he invaded it and stole it all away. My captor took me and I became a pawn. His strategy changed and he sent me away to WAR, because money is everything in this world. In my WAR, though, I found peace. I couldn’t help but find love where I least expected it, with a man who lived a battle every day of his life …all inside his head. But then my captor came back for me. Yet, this time, battle lines had been drawn and I was protected. So we thought. Even though my WAR was raging, my captor would fight to the death. The good guys always win, right? Not always. All’s fair in love and WAR, right? Not this time.
