Blog Tour: Strong by Kylie Scott

From New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Kylie Scott comes a new story in her Stage Dive series… When the girl of your dreams is kind of a nightmare. As head of security to Stage Dive, one of the biggest rock bands in the world, Sam Knowles has plenty of experience dealing with trouble. But spoilt brat Martha Nicholson just might be the worst thing he’s ever encountered. The beautiful troublemaker claims to have reformed, but Sam knows better than to think with what’s in his pants. Unfortunately, it’s not so easy to make his heart fall into line. Martha’s had her sights on the seriously built bodyguard for years. Quiet and conservative, he’s not even remotely her type. So why the hell can’t she get him out of her mind? There’s more to her than the Louboutin wearing party-girl of previous years, however. Maybe it’s time to let him in on that fact and deal with this thing between them. **Every 1001 Dark Nights novella is a standalone story. For new readers, it’s an introduction to an author’s world. And for fans, it’s a bonus book in the author’s series. We hope you'll enjoy each one as much as we do.**

“Ooh, busted,” said Lizzy. “The bodyguard caught you looking.” “Shut it.” I inched my chin up a bit, trying not to frown because frowning gave you lines. “Sam and I have known each other for years and nothing has ever happened. You’re completely wrong about this.” “Am I?” “Yes, there’s nothing between us.” “So that’s why you were staring at him?” I chose not to answer that. “And you know he prefers to be called executive protection officer instead of bodyguard.” At this, Lizzy burst out giggling, a malicious glee in her eyes. No wonder I liked my sister-in-law these days. Ben shot us both an irritated glance. We both ignored it. Of course, I’d known Sam would probably be here. Rock stars going out in public could be a delicate thing. People had a tendency to get overexcited. And while one person wanting an autograph wasn’t a problem, twenty or thirty of them suddenly swarming definitely could be. Having once been part of the entourage, I’d seen it happen to Ben and his fellow Stage Dive band members enough times to be wary. And you couldn’t get by with ordinary security. Rock stars needed protection from their over-zealous fans, but on the other hand they didn’t want the fans roughed up or hurt in any way. It required a delicate balance: control, experience, and a whole gamut of scary physical skills. Hence Sam. Still, Portland seemed generally less crazy than the good old days back in LA. All of the guys seemed calmer and more settled away from the constant craziness of the party scene. Not to mention the effect of all of the wives/partners and various offspring. The biggest rock band in the world had officially been domesticated. It was kind of cute. Or sad. I don’t know. “Sorry, I didn’t mean to stir you,” she lied. “What do you think of your brother’s new musical bromance?” On the small stage set up in the corner of the room, a young man wailed his heart out while playing an acoustic guitar. Much angst about a girl who only called him after midnight. Trust a rockster to turn a simple booty call into a heartbreaking ballad. The song was damn good though. He had talent. If only I hadn’t had my fill of the type when I was younger. The kid looked to be in his early to mid-twenties. Lanky with lots of tattoos. Your typical rock ’n roll Prince Charming. Gag. These days my type ran more toward…actually, what I needed or wanted in a male was a total mystery. And my gaze did not stray back to Sam. That did not happen.

REVIEW

Strong was a quick read, but it was just as much fun as the full length Stage Dive books. I loved all the glimpses of our favorite rockstars as two of their own give in to the chemistry between them. Sam and Martha get a well deserved hea in this novella and more than that Martha gets a much needed boost on her worth.

Sam has been in love with Martha for years, but he knew she wasn't ready for him so he kept it quiet - but big feelings don't always stay secret from everyone. Now that Martha is back and seems to be finding herself Sam knows it's time to let her know and find out how good they are together, but first he has to get her over her fears and the past. Martha doesn't know what to think about Sam's pronouncement of his feelings for her, his decades long love, it scares her as much as it makes her feel good.

I loved that Strong was about more than just these two making a love connection, that Sam wanted more than just to show Martha he loved and wanted her - he wanted her to know she was worthy of his love and adoration. He wanted her to see that past mistakes don't have to haunt us forever. It was truly a beautiful thing to see that just added to the already strong connection between them.

REVIEW

Summer Nights is the perfect ending to this trilogy.  It picks us up right where book two left off and showed us how things worked out for Ray and Marlo.

I love that this book dug us a little deeper and showed us how much Ray had changed from book one, that she's not the same person she was. There's a feeling of closure for them both as we come to the conclusion of this story and it made the journey even more worth it.

I really enjoyed how all of the emotions played out and shined through the writing of each of these books. That really sucked me in and held me captive just wanting to know what would be coming next and how things would unfold and end up.  The push and pull between them in each book, the hate, the love, the deep connection, it all went hand in hand delivering a powerful story of all love will stand up to.

Dying to experience life, I cross an ocean to get away from my fears. I find my safe haven in the form of Detective Aiden Holden. He shows me what love is, but then our lives collide. Our little world shatters, and I'm caught in the crossfire.

I'm forced to return home, to let go of the only person who has made me feel like I could be more.

How do you return to a cage once you’ve tasted freedom?

My only hope is that Aiden will cross an ocean for me.

When I open the front door, Emma forces a smile to her lips, but I can see it doesn’t reach her eyes.
It feels like I’ve lost her, and my heart clenches painfully.
Emma steps inside, her body tense as she glances around the foyer, and up at the stairs.
I hate that she’s uncomfortable in my home.
Having little to no strength left after the nightmare of a week, it feels like I’m about to break.
“Emma.” I close the door and take a step closer to her. “Tell me what happened. What you’re feelin’ and thinkin’? Let me help you.”
My eyes get stuck on the purple discoloration around her neck.
I know from experience what causes marks like that. Emma was choked. It explains why her voice is practically gone.
Rage makes me bite the words out, “What happened to your neck?”
When she presses her lips firmly together, refusing to talk, I take a step closer to her. Her body instantly goes tense, and she clenches her hands.
Fuck, not that.
“Emma, what did they do to you?” My voice is low with fear.
“Nothing,” she whispers.
I can’t stand the distance between us and I take the few steps separating us. I take hold of Emma’s clenched hands and pin them to my chest. She won’t open them or look at me.
“Please, Em. Let me share the pain. Let me help you through this.” She shakes her head, her breath catching in her throat. I brush my fingers over her cheek and lean closer. “Who hit you?”
She opens her mouth, and at first, only a rasp of air comes out.
It hurts like hell to see her like this.
Then she presses her forehead against my chest and finally whispers, “Colton.”
Fucking bastard. I wish I’d killed him when I had the chance.
I wrap my arms around her, wishing I could give her all of the strength I have left. I’m used to being in control, to being able to handle everything, but all my power has been stripped away from me.
Pressing a kiss to her temple, I softly say, “Tell me what they did so I can make them pay.”
She pushes against my chest, and I take a step back.
Her face is tight with anger. “You think you can actually do something about it?”
I frame her face and make her look at me. “Emma, I can. I’m not your dad. I’ll prosecute them with everything I have.”
“This is not about my fucking dad,” she screams, her voice breaking over the words. “You can’t do anything about it, Aiden. It fucking happened. It’s done. Nothing you do will change that.”
Her arms wrap around her waist, and hunching over, a broken cry tears from her. My heart shatters at the sight of her crumbling right before my eyes.
I move forward, but she sags to the floor, whimpering, “Don’t touch me.”
Feeling helpless as fuck, I watch the woman I love with every single beat of my heart, fall apart.
I sit down beside her, needing to let her know I’m not going anywhere.

Blog Tour: Hot Winter Nights by Jill Shalvis

In which our sexy hero wakes up with a woman in his bed and
no memory of how that happened. Did he miss the good stuff?

Hot Winter Nights
Heartbreaker Bay – Book 6
Jill Shalvis
Avon Books

Who needs mistletoe?

Most people wouldn’t think of a bad Santa case as the perfect Christmas gift. Then again, Molly Malone, office manager at Hunt Investigations, isn’t most people, and she could really use a distraction from the fantasies she’s been having since spending the night with her very secret crush, Lucas Knight. Nothing happened, not that Lucas knows that—but Molly just wants to enjoy being a little naughty for once . . .

Whiskey and pain meds for almost-healed bullet wounds don’t mix. Lucas needs to remember that next time he’s shot on the job, which may be sooner rather than later if Molly’s brother, Joe, finds out about them. Lucas can’t believe he’s drawing a blank on his (supposedly) passionate tryst with Molly, who’s the hottest, smartest, strongest woman he’s ever known. Strong enough to kick his butt if she discovers he’s been assigned to babysit her on her first case. And hot enough to melt his cold heart this Christmas . . .

REVIEW

Hot Winter Nights was a quick fun read that fell right into the rest of the Heartbreaker Bay series.  In it we got to see a love connection with the help of a little holiday magic.  Lucas and Molly have been friends for a long time, but sometimes friendship isn't enough and after an unexpected night together, Molly can't help but think of how different things could be.  Lucas feels that tug on his heart for more and yet he also knows he should stay away.

The chemistry between these two is explosive, their connection palpable, and their friendship a beautiful foundation for so much more.  I loved the push and pull between them, the desire to see where things can lead while also not wanting to lose what they already have with each other.

Along with watching as these two figured out how to become something more without risking each other there's a fun little mystery brewing as well.  I loved how that aligned with the changing relationship between these two and how it added just that little something extra to the story.

As with all of the books in this series, we get to see cameos from previous faves and how their lives are changing still but the bonds of family and friendship remain.  The small town feel as always leaves you feeling as if you belong in the story.

Release Blitz: Not Quite Perfect by Rebecca Norinne

————————————————

Victoria Witherspoon wasn't looking for love on the ferry ride to her mother's wedding. But when she meets sexy Professor David Carstairs, she can’t help but fall hard … and fast. But everything comes crashing down when Victoria and David discover their parents are about to be married! Looks like things aren't quite perfect after all.

Pick up your copy for $2.99 for a limited time.

BLURB:

I can’t believe I met the perfect man ...
On the ferry to my mother’s wedding, I met the most amazing man—his love of Faulkner notwithstanding. Professor David Carstairs was funny, intelligent, and had the sexiest hands I’d ever seen.

A conversation about classic American literature led to a romantic dinner at his house ... and then a whole lot of dessert afterward. I’d never done anything like that before, but what we had was something special.

Unfortunately, everything came crashing down the next day. Because my supposedly perfect professor? His dad just married my mom, and now he’s my stepbrother!

Thanksgiving dinner just got a whole lot more complicated.

I’ve finally found the perfect woman ...
En route to watch my father marry yet another young gold digger, I met the perfect woman—her hatred of Faulkner notwithstanding. Victoria Witherspoon was kind, witty, and had the most kissable lips I’d ever seen.

We spent the day together, and then stayed up all night exploring each other’s bodies. I don’t do relationships, but for someone as perfect as Victoria, I was ready to make an exception.

If only her mom hadn’t just married my dad, putting the object of all my fantasies firmly in the “off limits” category.

And I thought the holidays were awkward before.

EXCERPT

With sure hands, I untied the jaunty little bow at her waist and the fabric of her wrap skirt parted to reveal lacy white panties that matched her bra. Hot damn! If I'd known that a single tug on that ribbon would have bared Victoria to me, I wouldn't have been able to concentrate all evening. As I slowly folded back the checked fabric, it was like unwrapping the Christmas present you'd coveted all year. I wanted to savor the moment, while simultaneously wishing I could tear through it to get to the gift waiting within.

I traced the edge of the scalloped lace and hitched my finger under the gauzy fabric. "May I?" I asked, raising my eyes to hers.

"Yes." She nodded, her gaze imploring.

I hooked my fingers under the elastic and she lifted her hips to ease their path downward. I took my time removing her bra, trailing the back of my fingers over her skin in a soft caress, my lips following in their wake.

One half of my brain wanted me to dive in and feast on her, while the other half told me to take my time. If I rushed through this, she might leave. And I wanted to keep her right where she was ... all night long. There was no denying she and I had an intense connection, but who knew what that meant back out in the real world? For now, she was mine-even if I didn't know how long it could last.

I captured her mouth again, and when she mewled and arched against me, I kissed my way over her jaw and down her neck to the gentle slope of her breast. I flicked my tongue out and licked her nipple. She sighed, and I sucked the raised peak between my lips and made love to it with my mouth-sucking, licking, laving, biting.

"Please," she whispered on a shuddering sigh.

"Please, what?"

"I need you."

I loved how responsive she was to my touch. How vocal she was about her desires. "You have me."

"Now, David."

I reached over and pulled a condom out of the drawer of my nightstand. Sitting back on my haunches, I tore the foil packet open and rolled the latex down my erection. I guided myself to her entrance, but then paused. Suddenly, I felt the need to tell Victoria that this was more than a one-night stand for me. That come morning, I didn't want to say goodbye. I knew we'd have to-for now-but I desperately wanted to see where this thing between us might lead. "I want to see you again."

She wrapped her legs around my waist and locked her ankles. "Me too," she said, attempting to tug me forward. "But right now I need you to finish what you started."

I chuckled lightly, enjoying her eagerness, and entered into her in one fluid thrust, joining my body to hers. When I bottomed out, I held still, basking in our connection, until Victoria's hips rolled beneath me and she let out a long, satisfied moan.

I knew it was crazy, but with her sigh ringing in my ears, I was reminded of an Oscar Wilde quote: "You don't love someone for their looks or their clothes, but because they sing a song only you can hear." In that moment, it seemed like Victoria's sighs were meant solely for me, that they were the song of my heart.

"David." She tunneled her fingers into my hair to cup the back of my head and pulled me closer. Our lips met and our tongues curled in a long, drugging kiss. She arched into me, tipping her hips forward, welcoming me again and again into her wet, warm heat. I increased the tempo, and she whimpered and lifted her hips from the mattress to meet me thrust for thrust.

"I'm coming, David. Oh, god. Oh-" Victoria flung her head back, her neck stretching taut. She gasped, and her eyes screwed shut.

"That's it, baby." I lowered my hand between us and rubbed my thumb over her clit in tight, insistent circles. "Give it to me. Come all over my cock."

She bit her lip, her face turned red, and then I felt it ... the convulsing that signaled her orgasm. Her breath left her lungs in quick, shallow pants, and then she let out a keening cry as shuddering spasms rocked her body.

I moved against her, chasing my own climax, and when she opened her eyes and smiled up at me, I fell.

Hard.

Abandoning myself to the pleasure, I thrust into her one final time. With her name on my lips, I exploded into the condom with a roar. My vision blurred, and my heart clanged in my ears.

Spent, I hugged Victoria to me. I wasn't a romantic soul-I had the nasty divorce to prove it-but with our bodies still joined, my mind raced with a bevy of romantic thoughts. I'd never believed in love at first sight, but as I placed a kiss to her forehead and she nuzzled into me, I was forced to rethink my stance on the subject.

Not that I was in love with her-that was preposterous-but I knew I could be ... if I let myself.

After Stacia, I'd told myself that I was done with relationships. That falling in love only led to heartbreak and disappointment. But now, laying in my bed with this beguiling woman in my arms, I told myself something new.

I told myself I was willing to take that chance.

Zac’s determined to wipe the fear from the eyes of the woman who has never been far from his mind. And fix the mistakes—his mistakes—that put that look there in the first place.

Excerpt

“I was here a couple of years ago, but only for a day or two,” Anne told Zac, looking away. She had booked a room out of Oak Creek both times she’d dared come back. The thought of staying at The Mayor’s Inn had been too painful. She couldn’t even look at that hotel without feeling sick to her stomach.

And she’d avoided everyone—particularly Zac—as much as possible. Just in case his words about not coming back were still true. She tried to swallow the panic that threatened to overwhelm her. Maybe he still felt that way now, even though he hadn’t said anything at the hospital.

“There.” He pointed at her. “That look that just came into your eyes. I saw it at the hospital. It’s like you’re afraid of me, Annie.” He took a step closer and she instinctively one back. One of his eyebrows shot up, letting her know she’d proved his point. “Do you think I’m going to hurt you?”

“No.” Not physically. She’d never worried that he’d hurt her that way, despite having five inches and probably fifty pounds—all muscle—on her.

But he was right. She couldn’t continue living in Oak Creek with them ignoring everything that had happened that night. What had been said. What had been done. Maybe she would’ve tried to, and to avoid Zac forever, if he hadn’t ended up in her ER.

But the truth was, there weren’t enough bushes in this town for her to jump into. She was going to run into Zac. A lot.

Sometimes all you could do was face the past.

She pulled a breath in. “I’m not scared of you. I mean, I know you would never hurt me physically. For crying out loud, you wrecked your motorcycle rather than hit a dog.” She’d meant for her laugh to seem breezy, but it just sounded stilted. “But yeah, I mean, we can’t pretend like that night never happened. The stuff we did. Stuff you...we said.”

His eyes narrowed. “That night we spent together after Becky died.”

“Yeah. That night.” As if they’d had another. “The bottom line is, I can’t leave here, Zac. No matter what you said then, or even if you feel the same way now.”

He shook his head, brows furrowing. “I don’t expect you to leave. You’re obviously a respected doctor, more than competent. Why would you think I wanted you to leave?”

Some of the tension she’d been carrying since his arrival in the ER began to ease. He was right. Something said in grief and anger six years ago didn’t necessarily hold true all this time later. She was silly for thinking it did. “Okay, well, it’s good to know you don’t feel the same as you did back then.”

He took a single predatory step closer, and she tensed again. “I said something that night to make you think you needed to leave?”

She stared at him, her mouth flopping open like some sort of fish. “You don’t remember what you said?”

Those words would be engrained in her memory forever.

Get out and don’t come back.

He rubbed his forehead. “That whole night is fuzzy for me.”

I can’t even bear to look at you. You just betrayed the only person in this town who ever wanted you here.

Tossing her naked into the hallway before flinging her clothes at her.

“What do you remember?” She forced the words past a throat that seemed to have dried up.

His hand moved to the back of his neck. “Honestly, not much at all. It’s sort of a blur.”

She retreated a step from him again. That night had been the most important night of her life. The best. The worst. It had changed the very fabric of her being.

And it was sort of a blur for him.

Review

Cylcone kicks off the Linear Tactical series by Janie Crouch and boy does it deliver on the action and suspense promised.  Along with a second chance for our main characters, we get embroiled in a tale of danger and suspense that moves at a fast pace and keeps us guessing.

Annie and Zac have a history one that hasn't always been easy or pretty, but that history has led til now and their bond has only grown.  I really enjoyed these characters, getting to know them and follow their story. Along with meeting other side characters, I felt as if I was getting to know the whole group and I look forward to learning more in future books.

Cyclone kept me on the edge of my seat at times, trying to put it all together  and weigh out what was going to come next.  I was hooked on the story from all angles and couldn't wait to see what the author tossed me on the next page.
