Justin paced in Callie’s camper, wondering if this phone call was really necessary.

Maybe he should just spring it on his brother the next time Jack was in Denver. Show up with Callie, like it was no big deal that he’d fallen in love.

But it was a big deal. A huge deal.

The past two months had been amazing. Getting to know Callie on a platonic level and then sharing the type of intimacy with her that he never thought he’d find. Not just the sex, although that blew his freakin’ mind every damn time, but just being with his sweet, sassy, sexy cowgirl. Doing normal couple things. Sharing meals. Sitting by the bonfire, drinking beer and swapping life stories with their coworkers. Curling up together watching TV on her rare nights off. Talking about everything, laughing about nothing, making love until they collapsed in a sweaty, sated pile and fell asleep in each other’s arms. Justin was so gone for her that he even looked forward to doing laundry, grocery shopping and cleaning the camper with her.

Crazy to think he’d almost passed this up out of concern that he and Callie wouldn’t have anything in common except their mutual lust. But she hadn’t lied about being able to read him. She knew when he needed space and she could pull him out of his brooding thoughts like no one else had ever bothered to try.

The one wrinkle in their relationship was Callie refused to talk about their future, probably because she believed they didn’t have one. Early on she’d promised him that she wasn’t expecting long term—that she fully believed that he’d just move on to the next job in the next town. Any time he’d tried to broach the subject with her, she’d distracted him with her mouth or her smokin’ hot body. And he’d let himself be distracted because his woman was very inventive in her dirty distraction techniques. But time was running out to tell her how he felt about her and ask for the chance to build a future with her. He still hadn’t shared the fact that he had a hefty bank account, not out of fear she’d start to use him for his money, but fear that she’d see the gap in their financial statuses as a bigger issue than the gap in their ages and use it as an excuse to leave him.

Christ. He didn’t know what he’d do if she left him.

REVIEW

Wound Tight brings together two of Lorelei's series in one exciting book. If you are familiar with the Rough Riders - you know Jack Donohue and his relationship with Keely - what you might not remember is Jack has a younger brother, a brother who also dated Keely but things didn't work out and thank goodness for that. I couldn't wait to dive into Justin's story.

Justin and Callie couldn't appear to be any more different and yet there's a lot that they share despite their age difference. Callie has no problems with that as age is just a number to her, but Justin has his hang ups. But as these two are about to learn - Love can overcome a lot and sometimes Love happens when you least expect it to.

Wound Tight was a quick but enjoyable read. A story of love with an age gap and a bit of history to overcome. I loved the banter and interactions between Justin and Callie, it really made their connection work for me. I also loved seeing some favorite characters from past books and what they brought to this story.
